January 2010....FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE!!!!!!
VETERAN ROCK MANAGER CHRISTENS LOCAL “THE REAL DEAL” and SACRAMENTO MAGAZINE HONORS HIM WITH "BEST OF SACRAMENTO" AWARD!!!!!!
Sacramento Singer/Songwriter BILLY BLACKBURN released his debut album, “Defiant,” this past year and is working on the sophmore follow up, slated for release in spring of 2010. His recent performance at the Sacramento Convention Center for the Sold Out "Best of Sacramento" Party commanded the immediate attention of the 8'000 in attendance and still has people asking where they can see him next! The praises are pouring into the city that gave birth to Tesla and Cake before him.
"Billy is the real deal,” announced John Hartman, Former Manager of The Eagles and Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. Billy's style is uniquely his own and is a firey concoction of the multiple styles of music he grew up listening to. Based on his skills as a live performer alone...he WILL be a superstar!”
Hartman is right, as Blackburn effortlessly melds influences as varied as Metallica and Johnny Cash. He's already being called the next Kid Rock! What really sets him apart though, is his way with the pen. Blackburn is a singer/songwriter with old school talent that will remind you of the aforementioned Cash, as well as Bob Seger, Hank Williams Jr. and Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20. “It’s a unique and original blend of Hard Rock, Pop, and Outlaw Country that bleeds with heart and passion. Billy is an amazing wordsmith with the ability to paint a lyrical picture and then yank you inside of it. I couldn’t stop listening,” said Hartman.
Produced by Billy and Jay Trammel of Fat Cat Recording, “Defiant” was carefully crafted during a year and a half of hard work. The album quickly became an underground hit on the Internet and was already a popular download before the CDs were pressed. The CD is a polished work, reflecting both Blackburn’s passion and Trammel’s extensive professional experience combined with their attention to detail.
The beginning of the first track, 69 Chevelle – Part 1, is sure to command your attention, or more appropriately, yank you in by the throat! From the first time you hear the provocative intro, you can’t help being momentarily paralyzed as you feel like you were just thrown into the new Quentin Terrantino film. It’s a song based on a true story and it rips with attitude! He was also able to add a second part to the tune, track 12, that seamlessly finishes the album, something that one of the old Pink Floyd records would have done. Other tracks on the record that have good Rock Radio potential are: “I Belong to the Road”, a self inflicted reminder of Billy’s dream, “What You Had”, a tune about infidelity and betrayal, the harder and more aggressive “Bring the Pain” which was written specifically for the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) and his cover of the timeless classic seventies rock tune “Bad Company” is…I hate to say it, but…badder, ballsier, and better than the original! One of the lighter, heart melting cuts on the album, and most likely the first single to hit the masses and Adult Contemporary Radio, is the sultry and undeniably catchy “Let Me”. This is the “panty dropper”! I can already see the crowds of women flinging them at the stage!
With an assortment of melodic well crafted songs, picturesque lyrics, and that Voice, his debut has captured the hearts of millions worldwide and leaves me anxiosly wondering… what do we get from him next?
Blackburn’s most recent local show was a sold out huge success and is being followed up by a television performance on Good Day Sacramento, with his next show at Marilyn’s that same night at 10pm. Plans for a national tour to support his upcoming second album are in the works.
