  • Bio

Years ago, The Floating Children signed the worst contract in music history -- one with a clause that forbid the group from performing or even speaking to each other. Now, with the contract finally expired, the Floating Children are back! Members have returned to the two bedroom apartment they shared in the '90s and are booking new gigs (floating.children@gmail.com)! <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< The group is also collecting money to finance a "bootyoscopy" for rhythm guitarist Sammy Doddy. Members say the surgery is necessary to "make sure Sammy still has what it takes to shake his ass ... and yours!" >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> So, who exactly is the band that made such candy-colored rock racket? It's not that The Floating Children didn't like the jangle pop of the indie scene, it's just that they couldn't produce it. Not with a lead guitarist raised on rawk gods like Eddie Van Halen, a bassist who was red, hot and funky before the Red Hot Chili Peppers, a rhythm strummer stone in love with both the Replacements and Montrose, a singer possessed by P.T. Barnum, and drummers who could pound down walls. For two sweat-drenched years, The Floating Children were a must-see. And damn, the things you would see! Acrobatics, loin clothes, plastic reindeers, ball gowns, go-go girls and boys, plus an all-you-can drink champagne fountain. Through all the theatrics, the band held firm to big, raucous grooves. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> But it wasn't all decibels and debauchery. The group found the time and energy to create a foundation to help "creatively stunted children" discover the joys of music, art and aerobics. The foundation (now under the management of several prominent non-profits) still operates in rural North Carolina, South Carolina and Vermont. And then, thanks to the mendacious Meinhardt, it was all over. If you missed the storm the first time around, these recently unearthed tapes will give you a glimmer of the madness, the mess, the magnificence of The Floating Children. And don't forget to book'em now: floating.children@gmail.com. - Carl Pearl, The National Review .. .. ..
