Native Mainer Billy Winn moved down to Portland from the western mountains in 2003. He had decided to try his hand at song writing after 20 years of fronting cover bands, referring to his genre as alternative country rock pop. He blends his diverse musical tastes by combining southern rock and traditional country with a blues flavor and a touch of Appalachia thrown in.
Strong influences began with his first store-bought cassette "Wichita Lineman" by Glen Campbell, wandered through music by Led Zeppelin, and brought him to artists of today like Gary Allan and Jack White. Billy's thirst for everything music has no boundaries. He writes what he knows. After a twenty plus year struggle with hard drugs and alcohol, Billy pulls no punches about the cold, dark reality of addiction and his gratitude for having survived it.
If you like straight-forward, bluesy, country rock give, it a listen. The Phoenix (Sept. 2007)

Dear Humans, Mutants, Monsters, Aliens, and Synthetic Humans,
We're not much good at doing the world domination thing. We were made with cheap re-processed American parts and have a third class Play Dough brain. You got the wrong model robot if you think we want to KILL, CRUSH, and DESTROY!
For instance, Rob "Rainbow" Marley isn't exactly the most war-like synthetic human you ever met. He just likes to get buzzed and play his guitar. He doesn’t have the get-up-and-go to conquer the world. He is just trying to save up his energy in case he needs it later, which is always a wise course of action for a lazy robot. NEW ORDERS FROM THE MARTIAN HIGH COMMAND, "You should cut down on the mayhem and party, Party, PARTY!
But remember, the more you get buzzed and hang out...the more you turn into Rainbow Marley!
Hello from the Red Planet! May fireworks light up your sky! Sometimes music bounces from inside your head to the next dimension and sometimes it's right in front of you. Just grab the magic and go for broke! I've always prided myself on having a low IQ since I was made with cheap re-processed American parts and a third class robot brain. Did you ever hear a synthetic human spouting philosophy in his underwear? Mickey Microphone The Robots From Mars Checkout our Robomusic and Tall Tale.
PS You're invited to a cookout at the summit of Mount Olympus, the largest volcano on Mars and within our solar system. Bring your own marshmallows. PPS ZZ Van Hendrix says that he remembers you from a past lifetime...I think he was a pretzel. PPPS We're building a giant TV-Radio Internet Link on Mars so that we can pick-up your My Space Page. Don't want to miss anything. We’ll be watching you… Who do you think taught Superman to see through walls?
HAPPY BELATED ACROSS THE UNIVERSE DAY!!! From the ROBOTS FROM MARS
Music from Earth has been deliberately launched into space by humankind. Other than attaching a disc to a spacecraft or randomly broadcasting TV and radio signals, the Third Planet has never before attempted to share it’s musical culture with the Heavens. A Beatles song has been beamed out into the galaxy. NASA broadcasted the song, "Across the Universe", through the transmitters of its deep space communications network on the 40th anniversary of the songs recording at London's Abbey Road studios. February 4th also commemorated the space agency's 50th anniversary. The music was converted into digital data and sent on a 431 light year-journey towards Polaris, the North Star. The broadcast began its galactic crossing at 7 p.m. EST/February 4th 2008. Martian Side note: It might take awhile for the flower children around Polaris to respond to this broadcast. They prefer space polkas and hate all forms of technology.
Hey You... I hope you can make the show April 11th Bucks Naked BBQ Freeport... 9pm... Lots of people coming for it. My first one in almost 5 years in Southern Maine... RadioIndy Review of “Nothing to Lose” by Billy Winn is a highly professional and enjoyable modern country album. Billy’s heavy, near-baritone timbre radiates tons of emotion and pierces through the instrumentation. Honest and pure lyrics characterize the poetic makeup of these songs of love and loss. The mid-tempo, emotional ballad “That’s For Sure” delivers some very expressive musicianship and vocals. Other standout tracks include the heavy-with-rock-edge “Waiting On Someone” and the Phil Collins-esque “Honey Brown.” From start to finish, this CD delivers the entire package – beautiful lyrics, great song structure, and sincere vocal performances.
