Bilvox is the Boston based indie singer-songwriter, blending post-punk, folky pop/rock, with samples and U.K. influences into his own style. Bilvox(William Neidlinger) spent a number of years prior to forming "The Callous Stars" as a solo project with quite a history leading up to now.
He formed his first serious band in 2002, the Spark. It was a boot camp where songwriting, recording, performing and touring all came at the band so fast you couldn't help but absorb and learn in this crash-course in rock. After the band broke up in 2004 Bilvox spent time fine-tuning his lyrics, songwriting, production and learning to play more instruments.
Finally this hard work payed off with a well-received first solo effort in 2005/2006 "A Stranger in a Strange Land". Dubbed by independent press as "Hauntingly beautiful".
After doing a small venue support of the effort he immediately began work on a follow-up album. Learning a lot in the previous projects this was a more mature and measured approach, yet with as always an open heart.
Late 2007 and early 2008 was also spent recording and composing the score/original soundtrack for the independent film "Rule of Three". The film had its premiere in Los Angeles in April 2008 to rave review.
In the Summer of 2008 an E.P. was released; "Summer in the City" featuring new songs and an unplugged version of the popular song "The Stranger".
After a few years of writing songs, publishing albums, playing live and scoring an independent film Bilvox had a desire to reach out and form a band - a brotherhood - to take the songs he had demoed & recorded previously and use them as a foundation to rework and start out from - a launching point. Things came together in the spring of 2008; Anthony Medel (drums) and then Bryan Murphy (bass) joined up and things clicked and right away, the magic happened. Now most recently with the joining of Mike Isberg on guitars the lineup is complete and the band are poised, ready to push things forward.
Now one finds The Callous Stars hard at work in the rehearsal studio making their set-list tight, writing new songs and reworking the vast library from Bilvox's catalogue. They have played a few sets around Boston begining to cut their teeth as a live act.
In the immediate and near future Bilvox and The Callous Stars are booking gigs, releasing a promotional/booking EP and looking forward to take their songs out to the world.
More on the Boston based band "The Callous Stars".
"Its a welcome departure from previous projects, but really the next natural step from the music I was working on as a solo artist. We have taken a lot of the songs that I wrote/demoed out that have been shelved and we have given them new life and meaning. The songs are so catchy and "up" you can't help but be moved by them. The guys in the band are fun, talented and every day I learn something new from them." ~bilvox
