' Man is now acting like a cancer in nature, not because religion has in the past allowed man to abuse nature, but because modern man has abandoned true religion in favour of spiritless humanism without God and therefore without a centre or a purpose outside itself. A cancer after all is only an organic funtion gone wild, the part rebelling against the whole, a rupture of the natural equilibrium. Secular humanism - the world view that sees man as an end in himself without recourse to an ultimate Principle - ends by unleashing the rampant egotism on a global scale that is even now consuming and destroying the resources of the earth. True religion, based as it is on the awareness of the Whole which is God, celebrates the essential mystery of the Divine equilibrium, and teaches that man, by nature, must be the fulfilment not the negation of nature.'
