Tuesday, November 07, 2006 How do I make Biodiesel? - How to make biodiesel presentation by The S.A.V.E. Foundation - Description and more links follow. Look for a more extensive Biodiesel tutorial by S.A.V.E. soon. You can use raw vegetable oil. Raw oil like Canola, Olive, or the equivalent. You will need only two other ingredients. One, Methanol, two, Lye. Methanol and Lye are somewhat restricted. Methanol can be found at refineries. Lye can be found at chemical supply stores. FOLLOW ALL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS LABELED ON METHANOL AND LYE. Proportions are 5:1 oil to methanol. Also, with RAW vegetable oil, use 3.5mg of lye to one liter of oil. If you can measure volume of lye, use 4.5mL volume of lye. First, mix the methanol and lye till the lye crystals are dissolved. Last, Mix the methanol, lye, and vegetable oil. Mix and shake for 15-30 minutes at room temperature. Let it sit for several hours. The more dense stuff on the bottom is glycerin; the stuff on top is biodiesel. If you have pH paper, properly made biodiesel will have a pH between 8-9. Due to current Meth Watch restrictions Lye is somewhat restricted. Chemical supply stores which make soap will be your best shot at acquiring lye. Please check back often for updates about this. Methanol is a racing fuel additive and can be purchased or sought out through most automotive experts. How can I make Biodiesel? From used vegetable oil. Insert here the handout from the Bioneers conference. There is a detailed and easy to follow description of a titration test. Biodiesel frequently asked questions? Biodiesel Montana II to cross the Hi-Line this November 27 to December 2nd
The Student Advocates for Valuing the Environment Foundation
(S.A.V.E.) is crossing the Hi-Line this November 27 to December 2 with Biodiesel Montana Part 2. If your school is on the way from Helena to Browning, East on Highway 2, or along Route 200 from Sidney to Great Falls, we like to arrange to make a stop on our Tour.
Biodiesel Montana is fun, education effort that highlights the
benefits of Biodiesel for Montana and the Environment for youth and community members. The tour features Montana's young Country Legend Jason DeShaw of Plentywood, a biodiesel making crew that involves the audience, and the Vegi-mobile, S.A.V.E.'s '87 F-350 running on 100% Biodiesel year round. Demonstrations highlight the benefits of science and higher education with the added draw of live country music.
Biodiesel Montana Part I crossed through Southeast Montana and logged over 1,000 winter miles on S.A.V.E.'s homemade fuel processed from used fry oil. Venues ranged from the Petro Theatre at MSU-Billings to the Jersey Lilly in Ingomar. Our most exciting show was an all-student assembly at the Harlowton Middle School. The music and biodiesel engaged the students, faculty, staff and community members.
We would like to visit as many schools as possible with Part 2. Our presentations are flexible and can range from 15 minutes to an hour. We will also be setting up larger evening shows in some communities. See more from our first tour at photo journal or our Biodiesel link at Savemobile.org
