Acoustic-Funk/Fusion 70's Funk meets Modern Songwriting.
Birds in the Woods are an Acoustic-Funk Fusion group hailing from Boston MA. With George Woods on guitar/vocals, Sue Buzzard on violin, Tyreek Jackson on bass, and Massimo Buonanno on the drums, the quartet brings together funk and jam music with modern poetic songwriting to create their own unique voice.
Back when BITW was only an acoustic duet between George and Sue the name of the band came from an in-the-moment play on the two members last names. Tyreek and Massimo soon joined the group and brought with them their unquestionably tight grooves and experienced sound. Since the full quartet was formed the group has become a powerhouse of originality, and musical spontaneity.
BITW recently finished their debut full-length release “Some Thing Knew?” The album has received rave reviews such as “Birds in the Woods will redefine the definition of music.” (Isaac Davis, Juniorscave.com) and “Birds in the Woods have made one of 2009’s finest recordings… It’s complex. It’s beautiful. It’s passionate. This is a band that has it all together.” (Andrea Guy Vinyl&Vodka.com) Also, the albums lead track “The River” is to be featured in Relix Magazines Dec/Jan double issue that will receive a readership of roughly 360,000 people.
Among several of the groups accolades the individual members of Birds in the Woods have worked with renowned artists such as John Mayer, Burt Bacharach, Oscar Stagnaro, and Paula Cole to name a few. Several of them have toured internationally in countries like Switzerland, Venezuela, Aruba, Scotland, and Italy. The band was also the winner of the 2008 Boston Music Festival. They competed among over 130 bands and won by popular vote. Prizes included an industry showcase and a celebration concert at Boston City Hall.
BITW is a group that lovers of Dave Matthews Band, Herbie Hancock, Damien Rice, and Ani DiFranco wont want to miss. The creative talent and energy brought out when BITW’s four members perform together is bound to please both devoted fans and casual listeners alike.
