Formed in 2008, on the auspicious eve of October 31st, Bird Songs is an eclectic indie-thrash quartet with classic punk rock sensibilities. A low-fi onslaught of stylized guitar shreds and mournful vocal melodies, the band channels the ghost of Elliott Smith frozen in the Blizzard of Oz - an ingenious synthesis of tender, phonic mewling and riff-laden sonic aggression.
As devastating to behold as they are through the record player, their live performances swarm with fans of multiple genres, celebrating the diversified cacaphony of their multifarious sound. Observing Bird Songs is a unique experience; their performance summons images of Jim Morrisson's spastic gyrations amid a collage of 70's style guitar heroics, indie-rock beards, and chewed-up Converse.
In Bird Songs, this Jersey foursome has captured the essence of punk-rock defiance without compromising their originality. From the ashes of a genre long ago thought to have shown us all it had to offer, Bird Songs has broken free of all descriptors and forged their own unique sound from the cookie-cutter wasteland of suburban hipster-dom. - breakfast for dinner, summer '09
