The Appalachian Mountains, Kate Rusby, Deb Talan, Joni Mitchell, Martha Scanlan, Chris and Meredith Thompson, Alison Krauss, lullabies, our folk heros and friends - Mark Dvorak and The Pickin' Bubs, Peter, Paul & Mary, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, music we sang while growin' up at church, the haunting sound of wind blowing through the trees, golden autumn days, the hope of spring, and our dear friends both far and near who continue to share their passions with us.
"Well, I always say, music is good for the mind, body, spirit and soul. So there is one great group out there really making some very special music. If you have a chance to check out Birdy, please do. Their music is very soothing, and just takes you back to a more simple time...and after listening to Birdy, you know everything will be ok." ~Mike Kara (Thanks Mike...that's what we "sound like"!)

"Thank goodness for Birdy and their new CD! Bianca, Sharon and Meg have struck a most fortunate chord. Their voices and their message, are clear and beautiful." ~ Mark Dvorak, singer/songwriter, instructor at Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music.
Bianca Bevard and Sharon Speziale became pals back in the early 90's after meeting at church. A youth retreat found them sitting on a beach in Sawgutuck, Michigan one spring. Sharon had brought her guitar, singing began, and beautiful harmonies came a-tumblin' out.
The two went on to share church camp favorites such as Amazing Grace, Kum-ba-Ya and Edelweiss (a song they particularly cherish and still sing at concerts today).
There are lots of good stories in between then and now, but we'll fast forward a bit...
After traveling different paths for a few years, Sharon and Bianca reconnected in late 2007 and formed BIRDY with one 2008 performance date on the calendar for the Someplace Else Concert Series in La Grange, Illinois. That concert went well. Since then, they've played at private events, church gatherings, Borders Books & Music, an occasional pub, libraries, community centers, ice cream socials, and more Someplace Else concerts. In 2009, BIRDY welcomed percussionist Meg Thomas who brings a wonderful new dimension to Birdy's already established sound. The three birds have an awfully good time together...more laughing is done than rehearsing, but we're guessing that's what makes it all work.
BIRDY performs a variety of music in beautiful two-part harmony. When you attend one of their shows, you can expect to hear Birdy originals, tradional folk tunes, Celtic selections, contemporary music in a stripped down earthy style, a random Beatles tune, and a few other things thrown in for good measure. Some of their influences include Kate Rusby, Nanci Griffith, lullabies, the Appalachian Mountains, home town favorite Mark Dvorak, The Pickin' Bubs, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, The Wailin' Jennys, music they sang at church while they were growin' up, wind blowing in the trees, golden autumn days, and the hope of spring.
Join BIRDY for their next concert and bring a friend!
