helping people get fit. social change. birthday challenges. film. making fun of the spectacle we've created. i ride bikes a lot, climb a lot, run a lot, sometimes compete a lot. other than that, i spend a fair chunk of time writing, reading, studying, and occupying various pubs and coffee houses.
Music
pretty eclectic tastes: from mozart, to trance, to 70s soul, to zero 7, to miles davis, to los tigres del norte, international folk music, and in between. pretty much anything but pop except, of course, korki butchek, who is number one recording artist in all of central asia.
Movies
i'd seen the AFI top 100 list prior to its release, so i guess you could say i'm a film buff.
note: this article was written before the release of the life aquatic, the finest film of the decade, so far. docs, like why we fight, have led the list over the last couple of years, though layer cake, badasss, and the proposition stand out in the narrative genre.
Television
if i had TV i'd watch the daily show and the colbert report but my television only gets dvds. tv worth renting seems to all come from hbo: da ali g show, deadwood, firefly, the office....
Books
fairly well versed in the classics, and always have a few books going. whatever happened to writing like this?
Heroes
anyone who lives with passion and, more importantly, compassion.
this paul watson speech is long but if you've got 30 minutes it might change your life.inspiring, indeed.

i'm the fitness and nutrition advisor for beachbody. trying to leave this world in better state than i found it, though i'm not sure if this is going well. work mainly in the fitness and nutrition field, made a couple of films, play a lot of outdoor sports and, with all my extra time, chip away at a phd in sustainable nutrition. when we save ourselves, we save the world, and we seem to have lost this focus in the way we treat each other--and ourselves--in our day to day lives. live your life is if you matter, because you do.
i spend very little time on my space. most of my friends reside on facebook and my most frequent updates are on my Blogger blog, though I try to copy them here too.
more on moi at:
Who I'd like to meet: i've got a great circle of friends around the world but, ya know, friends; you can't have too many.
i travel a lot, so those that like to get out and do stuff are always welcome additions. especially those who hit the pub, er, i mean climb, ride (anything without a motor), and generally like to push limits but aren't so serious they can't hit to pub afterwards. there, that sounds better. what am i supposed to say? my bike team is sponsored by a pub.
i tend get along with those who embrace and challenge life. we only get one shot at it, as far as we know, so we might as well make the best of it.
Steve, thanks for the add, we hope that you will consider joining the tribe on Tribal Running (www. tribalrunning. net), have a great new year and a great running year.

Was in Yosemite this past weekend with someone who had never been before...now he wants to climb El Capitan. Where can I buy him a copy of Wall Rats???
I'd like to do Moab, but it looks unlikely...I doubt I'll have enough vacation time. But if I can find cheap tickets and can work remotely for a few days, maybe....
