Within this site you will also feel the rich history of midwifery and childbirth trends in the south. When women birth using the methods taught and used by Birth in the Tradition, they express their feelings as “invincible”!
My name is Sarahn Henderson and I am a Traditional midwife who practices in the greater Atlanta area. Actually I travel beyond the greater Atlanta area when I am asked as long as your home is within a three hour drive. I have been serving mothers in childbirth since 1980. I must say that my path to midwifery was a true calling. Being obedient to the call, I have witnessed over a thousand deliveries in homes and hospitals. I have five grown children who were each born at home with a traditional midwife.
I believe that birth when left unhampered can be a normal, natural, healthy and a safe process of letting go. I believe that when a mother stays home surrounded by people who she knows and trust, where she can create her own ambiance, play music, keep herself nourished, control the temperature of her home, she releases endorphins which keeps her comfortable and confident in her body’s ability to birth normally. On the contrary, I have witnessed women birth in hospitals surrounded by unfamiliar people, with the sounds of heart tones coming from machines, strapped down to a bed with only cold ice chips to eat to become over stimulated by her surroundings causing her discomfort and pain. Often times, her experience leaves a genetic memory (in her) of pain and suffering. I believe that pain in child birth is over rated in our culture and that each woman is strong enough to birth without drugs. I believe that our culture perpetuates fear in women which lessons their confidence to do what women have been capable of doing since the beginning of time.
My mission is to be a catalyst in restoring the lost confidence and trust in birth for women so that she passes on the joys of pregnancy and birth to her children. Empowering women does me good, one birth at a time.
I provide childbirth education, comprehensive prenatal care, labor support and attentive in home post partum care. My goal is to help my clients create the birth experience they want.
Training is offered to those who wish to become certified as Childbirth Educator, Labor and Postpartum Doula, and as a Midwife Assistant through Birth in the Tradition.
