About me: The eldest of four children (3 boys & 1 girl), I was born on April 26, 1948 to the Reverend Lloyd C. Coles, Jr. and the late Wilma R. Coles. Reared in the reverence and admonition of the Lord, I responded to the call of the Holy Spirit to proclaim the gospel at 18 yrs. of age. In doing so, I became a fourth generation preacher in the Church of God in Christ (COGIC); following in the steps of my great-grandfather (the late Elder William Coles), my grandfather (the late Elder Lloyd C. Coles, Sr.), and my father.
In 1966 I was licensed a minister at the hand of the late Bishop Samuel Kelsey (Washington, D.C. Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction) and ordained an elder in 1969 at the hand of the late Bishop David C. Love (Virginia, 1st Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction). Serving with, and mentored by, my father, I matured in the ministry, and was eventually appointed as the Assistant Pastor at the Gethsemane COGIC (Alexandria, Virginia). In October 2004, I was consecrated bishop of the state of Virginia for The Convention of Covenanting Churches (CCC). I also serve as founding visionary of New Dominion Covenant Ministries. In August 2008, I was appointed to serve as 1st Assistant Prelate of the 3d Jurisdiction of CCC. As such, I have the responsibility of assisting the jurisdictional prelate in overseeing CCC member churches/ministries in Washington, DC, the states of Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and the Caribbean Islands. As a disciple of Christ and a bishop of the Church, I appreciate and value the diversity within the Body of Christ. I am committed to transcending any, and all, boundaries (e.g. denominational, cultural, ethnic, gender, etc.) that serve to divide the Body and hinder It in fulfilling It's purpose of ministering the gospel of reconciliation. Sharing with me in ministry are my wife Joanna, my daughter Yolánda, and my son Julian.
