Born in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, Plant City’s Bishop Wayne has a polished, flexible voice with a slight Caribbean lilt. His phrasing is spot-on, and unlike most neo-soul singers, he generally refrains from overselling the dramas of love. His voice is a smooth instrument but never saccharine; there’s a sincerity that comes through, even when Wayne sings platitudes about loving his lady (“My Best Friend”).
