..Tom Barlow - Jazzwise.. ..****.. “Saxophonist Adam Bishop’s Sanctuary is a sweetly assured debut. ……..they play such delightful, intuitive jazz that it is impossible not to be impressed... As a saxophonist, his strength is a quite lovely tone, particularly on soprano. Bishop also demonstrates a delicacy and confidence that endows Sanctuary with an earthiness and mellow, sophisticated chill. What’s more, unlike many contemporaries, there is little need to impress.”.. .. ..Kevin Le Gendre – Echoes.. ..****.. "Bishop’s soprano sax is particularly impressive. Consistently good composing ”.. .. ..Keith Ames – Musician Magazine.. ..“challenging yet extremely rewarding improvisational jazz…. this CD packs a real punch and is recommended listening for anyone interested in the present jazz format. The genre is certainly in good hands if this recording is anything to go by. Consumate.”.. .. ..Chris Parker - Vortex Review.. .. “Leading a tight, muscular yet sensitive quartet Bishop showcases ….. a considerable compositional gift on this, his outfit's debut album... This is an unequivocally enjoyable, accomplished album, setting an intriguing new saxophone talent against a skilful, elegant but robust rhythm section One to watch.”.. .. ..Chris May - allaboutjazz.com.. ..“A gorgeously lyrical tenor saxophonist, …..the most assured and compelling British jazz album to be released so far this year. On Sanctuary the quartet play supple, melodically vibrant jazz with a spiky modern edge... Bishop creates lovely, uplifting music throughout, and the listener is revived and replenished by hearing it... Emotionally articulate and thoughtful music which repays repeated listenings, Sanctuary announces the arrival of another talented voice on London's saxophone scene.”.. .. ..Ian Mann 24dash.com.. ..“A high quality debut album that speaks of even better things to come... His writing is intelligent and intriguing and his playing is confident, assured and free of bluster. He is a thoughtful musician who likes to take his time and who uses that time effectively. .. The sympathetic support he receives from a first class band is a big help and the interaction between the players is excellent throughout the album.”..
