Writing, music, GOOD movies and GOOD television, billiards, darts, reading, cooking, being with friends, drinking GOOD beer (I'm a pretty big beer snob), learning new languages, and figuring out how to make myself NOT look like an idiot when it comes to wine.
Music
First off, I love my SIRIUS Satellite Radio. Of course if I didn't live in the Philadelphia radio market, I might actually not have gotten it. See... Philly is the largest radio market in the entire country without an alternative / hard rock station. Oh sure... we've got plenty of that R&B / Rap shit. We have a tired "classic" rock station that seems to play Led Zeppelin every 20 minutes, but nothing that is NEW and would rock you so hard that you'd pretty much cry from sensory overload. If we had a station like that, I wouldn't have bothered with SIRIUS. Since we don't have one AND I can't tune in WAAF from Boston (as I'm about 8 hours SOUTH), SIRIUS rocks.
Now that I've said that, the music itself is way too much to list, but I'll try a few:
The Beatles, Glen Miller Orchestra, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Snake River Conspiracy, Live, The Black Crowes, Guns N' Roses, Alice in Chains, Louis Armstrong, Jesus Jones ("Doubt" only... the other albums really weren't all that good), Sneaker Pimps, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Faith No More, Helmet, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, VAST, Brad Paisley, Miranda Lambert, and many others.
I try to listen to WMMR's morning show with Preston & Steve. MMR is a classic rock station and not really my favorite thing in the world, but P&S are pretty much the best in the biz for the morning. After that is over (10am EST), I connect 107.3 WAAF out of Boston over the internet (that's http://www.waaf.com to you morons who can't figure out how to find a fucking URL) and listen to Mike Hsu just biding my time for my girl Mistress Carrie to carry me through the rest of the day. She's just the shit. In any case, AAF has the best playlist in the country.
Movies
Yeah... not a chance I can list them all out there as I have a collection over 325 titles long. So let's stick with Star Wars, Serenity, The Usual Suspects, The Godfather, Reservoir Dogs, and Silence of the Lambs.
There are, of course, many comedies and dramas as well, but I dig the movies that I can't currently wake up and live.
Television
If Joss Whedon wrote it, I'll watch it. Also, 24, Lost, Veronica Mars, Prison Break, Supernatural, Survivor, almost anything on BBC America, and all flavors of CSI (although Miami is getting really tired now).
Books
I was an English major who concentrated in Literary Studies. Ya think I have a few favorites? Let's try anything by:
Stephen King
Nathaniel Hawthorne
Edgar Allan Poe
John Lescroart
Tom Clancy
J. K. Rowling
William Shakespeare
Heroes
My dad. I have no other reason to look up to anyone else. If that's a problem for you, then I really do pity you.
About me: "Who am I? Why am I here?"
-- Admiral Stockdale, 1992 Vice-Presidential Debate
Yes Admiral, you ask the questions that everyone wants to know. Some trek to the remote mountains and seek enlightenment from a yogi, but personally I don't trust bears who steal pic-a-nic baskets.
The real questions are not who I am (who I am is me) or why I am here (why am I here is simply to confound and entertain), but they are "Why would people actually choose to listen to Britney Spears?" and "If a peanut-butter and jelly sandwich attacked you, what pants would you be wearing?" Think about it... it's a very intense internal debate.
As you can see, seriousness and me don't get along. I can "do" serious if I need to, but luckily I don't really need to that often. I would much rather crack a joke and raise an eyebrow. It's my firm and unyielding belief that there's enough crap in the world to make you furrow your brow and frown, but only the true friends in your life will attempt to make jackasses out of themselves for your personal amusment. It's that friend that I try to be. Just got dumped by your significant other? We'll get booze, commiserate, and spread nasty rumours regarding their fondness for sheared sheep. Just lost a job? We'll sneak to that building after hours and moon the security cameras. Basically, it's all about the smiles folks.
So that's me... hopefully that answered some of your questions. Of course if one of your questions was "If you were travelling at the speed of light and then farted, would you go faster or just blow your intestines out your nose?" then I guess I didn't answer that one. Sorry. If you need more information that that, well... to quote a rasslin' cowboy: "Sorry about your damn luck."
Who I'd like to meet: Celebrities: Stephen King, Joss Whedon, George Lucas, Brad Paisley, and Tom Hanks. Why? Well King and Whedon are just geniuses, in my opinion. King is utterly prolific and really affected my writing style. Whedon? Pretty much anything he writes, I'll watch. Lucas, while not the most incredible of writers, the man is a thinker. He is alone responsible for a multi-billion dollar industry (also known as STAR WARS) which continues to inspire kids today... 30 years after it originally came out. Paisley is a funny bastard who has really got me enjoying country music and Tom Hanks can do it all. Plus, he seems like a really nice guy. People in General: I guess pretty much anyone who's interesting enough that I can talk to for a bit and not feel the urge to kill myself.
