Without music I'd probably live a really sad existence. It is my most favorite thing in all this world.
This is me
The DFAS - well used to be me. If you had told me that not only would I have played in a band but also would have gone into the studio and recorded an album I would have fought you because you would have been a filthy liar. And I hate filthy liars. But you aren't liars. You are good people. I list this experience as one of the top 5 of my entire life.
There are many reasons I joined a band. What solidified it was a growing appreciation of local music. Primarily it started with the Charm City Power Pop Champions Splitsville. The other members may disagree with me but personally there would not have been a DFAS if it weren't for a trip down to Wyatt's Saloon years ago to catch these Masters of Rock spin tales of painful manhood rites, french explorers and a rare tribute to the difficulty of urinating in front of others. You can't catch them as often anymore because they are spread across this great nation, but keep your eyes peeled. They may appear in a watering hole near you! In the meantime, be their friend.
Even though the 'ville don't play as much the talented blokes have continued to make great music with other talented blokes. So be on the look out for: The Pale Stars- All nice guys. Also visit them on myspace here
The Lucky Few - So much sugar, fillings will be needed after listening. See them and fall under the spell.
Wow, been a while since I updated this list. I'm not even sure all the links work anymore. I'll update it soon.
There is also the typical fanboy bullsh*t like Star Wars, Indiana Jones and the like. But again those are obvious picks. My love for those run deep.
I also have a love of horror flicks. I couldn't compete with those that truly are horror geeks but I love a good scary film. Thank God my wife does too because what good is a scary flick without a scared chick beside you.
Brief list of favorites: Dawn of the Dead (1978) - The remake was OK. I've heard from a lot of younger folks that it was better. Blasphemy! Why does something have to run in order to be scary. Zombies are reanimated decaying corpses. They can't run. End of story.
Shaun of the Dead (2004) - I know its a comedy. But what makes it so good is that it takes its horror seriously. These dudes love them some zombie flicks and it shows in this masterpiece.
Friday the 13th Part III (1982) - I know the Final Chapter is the obvious pick (Cory Feldman, Crispin Glover, whats not to love) But the fact that this came out in the theater in 3D and is the first time he dons the hockey mask puts this one right up at the top.
Halloween (1978) - To me this is top shelf all the way. Anyone who knows me knows my love of this film. This is one of my top 5 MOVIES of all time. Not just horror. Two words: Donald F*ckin' Pleasance! Without him, this move is just another slasher flick. Plus add the fact that the entire movie takes place on my favorite day of the year. Because of it I have a soft spot for all the others in the series.
There are certainly others (Evil Dead, Texas Chain Saw) I enjoy but then this runs the risk of turning into a blog entry.
Television
When I have time:
The Wire - I'm still mourning its loss. When it was great, it was the best we ever had.
24 - Well Season 6 blew. But as I've said before, until I see a Jack Bauer tombstone, I must watch.
Deadwood - C*cksucker. I hope those movies get made.
The Sopranos - Well its over. Regardless on how you thought it ended you have to agree we'll never see another show like it.
The Office - And by that I mean one of the BBC's finest comedies. I respect the US version but I'll choose David Brent and the gang over them anytime.
Ghost Hunters - A guilty pleasure.
