About me:
Pepe Villegas and Lucy Mink: Two new shows at BAG Meet the artists. PRIZE WINNERS SHOW AT BAG GALLERY Brooklyn Artists Gym is proud to present two new shows. Pepe Villegas won first prize in our Look See: Reflections show. Lucy Mink won first prize in our second annual Small Works Show. Both artists bring exciting new work to the Brooklyn Artists Gym Gallery the first two weekends of August. Come join us for artists receptions, Saturday, August 4 from 4:00-6:00 p.m., and Saturday, August 11, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. PEPE VILLEGAS August 4-5. Opening, Sat., Aug. 4, 4:00-6:00pm ARTIST STATEMENT My creative inspiration as a multi-media artist embodies an inner search, a journey, a sublime process of co-creating and expressing my vision, acknowledging both spiritual and human qualities of who we are. I choose to create a voice; a memory, still or in motion; a way of expression, my own language, by and through my own thoughts. It embodies dreams and curiosity by manifesting and documenting a process of intellectual, popular and spiritual substance, always in synchronicity with the contemporary and fashionable. In this exhibition I share my creative process of growth both as a human being and as an artist with the willingness and desire to inspire people to transcend their lives and circumstances into a higher consciousness of abundance and the infinite possibilities as we trust the process of releasing, with compassion, our limited perception of life and keep ourselves open to receive all of the Universe riches. Each piece represents a moment and a blessing in disguise. I choose to see only with eyes of love. This is my motto, my inspiration and my principle as an offering to share and motivate people to uncover their individual creativity fearlessly. To manifest my thoughts is to be in harmony with the Unseen. -- Pepe Villegas LUCY MINK: August 11-12. Opening, Sat., Aug. 11, 6:00-8:00 pm ARTIST STATEMENT Over the years I have worked with various media including oil paint, wax, latex, porcelain, felt, cloth, hair, thread, and zippers. My paintings are mainly in oil but include layers of collage material and beeswax. These paintings document the past four years of my life in my own abstract way. In 2003, I made the commitment to have children, which also meant putting oil painting on hold. My body was not my own for four years as I gave birth to and nursed my two children, Gigi and Nico. As of June 15th of this year, I have finally begun to paint again. If I had to put words to my imagery I would say organic, swinging, sucking, stretching, repetitive, bodily, thick, light, soft, vaginal, and bulbous. I lean towards using glossy reds since it is one of the most powerful colors, meaning that you would never use it for your dining room - it's for conveying a sense of the body. I start somewhere and I add and edit until I feel personally closer to the painting, as you would a good friend or a lover. -- Lucy Mink JOIN US: You can still become an Artist-in-Residence at BAG. I'm busy painting and thinking of so many friends that fill my life. This round at the Saatchi I've entered a painting I did celebrating health and life. "La Dance".
Please stop by and vote through the 21st
Wishing you the best in art and health!
Carolyn
