RON BRAXTON PUTTING IT DOWN WITH PAT & DW-CLAP YOUR HANDS!!!!!
I'm a musician who loves what he does, it's a blessing to be able to share my gift and talent with others........ I also love playing at my church Burning Bush Worship Center,my second church family First Pentacostal U.H.C,playing with Seedis,Patrick Riddick & D'vyne Worship,Kentric Morris & Elavation,The-O-Band,and any of my talented musician buddies.
If music can take on a life-like form, then Ron “BKKID” Braxton is the pulse that keeps it alive. Ron Braxton was born on June 20, 1979 in Brooklyn, New York. As a child Ron use to play pots and pans pretending that they were a drum set, and although he used to drive his mother and family crazy they knew that he had a real underlying talent. As a kid growing up in Brooklyn Ron had his first encounter with drums at the tender age of 4. By the time he was 7 years old he was convinced that he had found his calling. While living in New York he attended two of the most well-known churches in the area: Washington Temple C.O.G.I.C. and Institutional C.O.G.I.C. International. While at Washington Temple C.O.G.I.C. he would listen to the rythmatic sounds of Poppy White and when he visited Institutional C.O.G.I.C International he was inspired by the drum techniques of Anthony Fisher, Gerald Heyward, & the percussion of Ricky Cooper. Ron also was inspired by his family which included a long line of musicians and vocalists. His mother and aunts formed a locally well-known group called the Kittrell Sisters whom at the time were matched up by the Clark Sisters. He also had great inspiration from his God-Father Rev. Timothy Wright whom he had the honor of playing with at Grace Tabernacle Christian Center.
In 1991 Ron moved from Brooklyn to Virginia and started playing at St. Andrews C.O.G.I.C. and progressed to play at Revelation Tabernacle Worship Center in 1994. While playing at Revelation Tabernacle he would also travel extensively around the country with Prophet Todd Hall. He would go back home to Brooklyn on weekends and during his summer breaks play with his cousin Derrick Wright (Toni Braxton’s drummer) and another good friend organist Greg Mitchell Sr. During this same time period when he was in Virginia he learned fundamentals with Jeff Owens and Chris Peace and it was from those encounters that he developed the Ron Braxton ‘Pocket’, which was a sound so clean that it forced you to nod your head. Ron is known up and down the East Coast for his heavy pocket and tasteful placement. His percussion abilities coupled with his great personality and easy-going spirit lends him to music in a way that enables every fine musician around him to both benefit, and further, an established piece of music or a work in progress—his creativity is boundless.
Ron has been blessed to grace the drums for International artists including, but not limited to: Vicky Winans, Karen Clark, Sheard, Marvin Sapp, Juanita Bynam, SWV and Hezekian Walker & the Love Fellowship Choir. He has also shared the stage with James Hall, Yolanda Adams, Tye Tribbett & GA, The Roots, Fred Hammond, Lyfe Jennings and Kirk Franklin just to name a few. Ron currently plays for Patrick Riddick & D’vyne Worship of Animated Entertainment, a local band (SeedIs…) based out of Norfolk, Va. Known for their great Jazz/Rock/Reggae/Go-Go/R&B sounds as well as The O-Band also out of Norfolk.
Ron “BKKID” Braxton has been playing drums for many years and has not missed a beat. He is definitely an artist to look out for. From his smooth consistency to his blazing chops he has it all—an all-around great artist to hear and an even better one to work with. In his own words: “I thank God for this talent he given me, and all the great artists he has blessed me to work with. I just cannot wait for what he has in store for me next.”
