wow, there's a recession / depression ((( what the...!? ))) in full swing but we still need a way to refresh our wardrobes without breaking our wallets. swap*meet is a social gathering that aims to encourage awareness about recycling and reusing textiles and clothing. Participants will benefit by swapping their unwanted clothes (or other wearable accessories) and connecting with others while satisfying their desire for attaining something 'new'. The best thing is: swappers will not accumulate debt, guilt or stress from swapping. The leftover clothing will be collected by Wearable Collections. FAQ / THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

All the information below should answer any of your questions.

WHAT'S A CLOTHING SWAP?

A clothing swap is a fun, smart, green and inexpensive way to simultaneously get rid of all the clothes, shoes, and accessories that you never wear but have been taking up space. At the same time, you can find a bunch of new clothes and meet the interesting people who chose your new gear!

GENERAL:
* Please only bring GOOD quality clothing/textiles/yarns for swapping. Worn, torn, or stained items are fine but please put them in a separate bag. NO UNDERGARMENTS unless they are NEW! Socks and stockings are welcome ONLY if they are in good condition.
* Please respect other swappers.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

Please bring at least one shopping bag full of clothing, shoes, or accessories (scarves, hats, bags, etc.) in good condition. The stuff that needs the love that you haven't been able to give it. Please be sure that it's CLEAN*

Other acceptable WEARABLES include: hats, shoes, belts, backpacks, fabric yardage, yarn, costumes, etc.

WHAT NOT TO BRING: anything dirty, stinky, moldy, etc.

IS THERE A MINIMUM AMOUNT OF CLOTHING I SHOULD BRING? No, but we recommend about 12-20 pieces of clothing, shoes, or accessories.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

You'll hand off your items when you arrive OR you will place each item in its appropriate pile and never have to deal with them again! You then get to try on, check out and take home any stuff you want. All you have to do is jump in and start having fun.

IS THIS A TRADE, AN EVEN SWAP?

We cannot guarantee an even exchange of items. Everyone who participates will have different tastes, sizes, family members, etc. There is no way we can make sure everyone leaves with the same amount of items they came with. You just might not find as many items you like compared to the number of items you brought. You might also find more items you like than the number of items you brought. But to be sure of a fair chance for everyone, we target all different types of people when promoting the event

WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE ANY CLOTHES TO TRADE? Can I still come to the swap?

Yes you can… but come on - you have stuff to bring. You can also bring hats, shoes, belts, backpacks, fabric yardage, yarn, costumes, etc. Bring stuff to swap!

CAN I JUST BRING LIKE 2 SHIRTS AND WALK AWAY WITH A TON OF STUFF

Please don't.

CAN I JUST GRAB ALL THE BEST CLOTHES AND RESELL THEM?

There is global recession happening and everyone is experiencing a tug on the wallet, so please be considerate. Don’t come to the swap with this intention.

CAN ANYONE COME TO THE SWAP?

Everyone is welcome. Women, men, children. Young, mature. Students, skeptics, professionals, amateurs and artists.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:

BAGS: In addition to the bags that you’ll carry your clothes in, also consider bringing all those plastic/paper shopping bags you’ve been accumulating… They’ll come in handy… OR you can bring a few cloth bags.

NO GUARANTEES:We cannot guarantee you will find anything you like or anything in your size. However, we do promote and target all different types of people to be sure all bases are covered so our swaps are as well-rounded as possible.

RECEIPTS: We are not a charity and therefore cannot give you a receipt for your donation.

THE MORE, THE BETTER: The more people who come, the more chances there are that there will be something for everyone. So invite a friend! Someone who is your size or whose kids are a little bigger than yours.

NON-COMMERCE ZONE: THIS IS NOT A PLACE TO BUY OR SELL ANYTHING.

TRYING THINGS ON: Our swaps are open to women, men, and children. So, for convenience, consider dressing in clothing that will allow you to try things over them, like a tank top, exercise clothing, leggings, etc. **Macon Library swaps have restrooms with mirrors** NOTE: We want to keep it a family friendly event and don't want to see people stripping down to try on clothes.

SHARED INTEREST IN ONE ITEM: If more than one person shows interest in an item, the "dispute" should be settled with the flip of a coin or something to that effect.

WHAT IF I CAN'T MAKE IT TO THE SWAP BUT WANT TO DONATE CLOTHING?

Send an mail bkce.swap.meet@gmail.com. We can set up a time and place for you to drop your stuff off. If you have a seriously large donation, we can try to set up a way to have it picked up.

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE LEFTOVER CLOTHES?

To ensure that all the clothing from swap * meet stays out of landfills, leftovers are: sent to textile recyclers, upcycled as reusable items (i.e.: shredded and woven into new cloth), offered at the Really Really Free Market or will be donated to local charities.

HOW CAN I BE A PART OF THE CLOTHING SWAPS?

Volunteers are always welcome! Send an email to bkce.swap.meet@gmail.com for more information.

I RUN A LOCAL BUSINESS AND I WOULD LIKE TO HELP OUT, EITHER MONETARILY OR IN-KIND. HOW CAN I BECOME A SPONSOR?

Thank goodness you asked. We need sponsors to both help with costs and to donate space for swapping, coffee, clothing, etc. Please mail us at bkce.swap.meet@gmail.com if you're interested in finding out more.
