Shane. MUSIC - I have played in bands since the age of 18, I am now 26. I therefore understand things from a band perspective - and have seen it all, good and bad. High points include playing to 3000 people at FREEFEST East Midlands music festival two years running with a previous band in 2002 & 2003. Have also played Guilfest and venues in London, Oxford, Reading, Guilford, Leicester, Nottingham & Kent, amongst others. Still play in a low-key band for fun. I wanted to make a career from a band, but unfortunately for me I never found the right people who would give up everything to get somewhere. However I feel I will prove to be very good in the management/strategy side of breaking a band, so we feel we can help the right band out there!
BUSINESS/DRIVE - I've also done my time in the corporate world running projects, delivering to deadlines, working to a budget, contracts. All this transfers well to making the most of your music and getting it out there. A band is effectively a business - if you are delivering a product that no one is interested in, and losing money - what chance have you got?! I have burning ambition and passion for music. I spend most of the week listening to unsigned music, going to local gigs, talking to bands, promoters, photographers, graphic deigners, people who go to gigs. I can transfer these abilities to help bands/artists that EXCITE me, and those that are prepared to work hard to achieve it. Nothing falls into your lap in music, no matter how good you are
Neil. MUSIC- Unlike Shane I can't play an instrument, write a song & I certainly can't sing. I do though have an outstanding passion for music and love to hear new and exciting bands/artists. I've been to venues all over the country to gigs for most of the biggest names in the business. I know my music and can distinguish between the great from the good, the good from the mediocre and the mediocre to the downright shit. Nothing generates feelings and emotions in the same way music can and we are looking for bands/artists that have the ability, passion and desire to suceed. BUSINESS/DRIVE - I have been working in London for 6 years in the financial sector & yes it is boring! Life is too short & I would rather spend my remaning years doing something that I LOVE. In my job I have picked up good experience in dealing with managing clients & accounts & now want to apply those tools in the music industry.
Influences
Bands that make you wanna see them again and again and again
In September 2007 Black & White Music took over the full time management of Reading band WHITE SUNDAY. Black & White Music had been working with their previous management and current label Acid Queen Music from April 2007. Check out the band on the link here: WHITE SUNDAY
PRESS + BOOKINGS - THE COLOURS:
In October 2007 Black & White Music began working in a promotional capacity with Reading band THE COLOURS. After taking a keen interest in the band's development over the last 12 months, and putting the band on at a number of our gigs, Black & White are now working alongside their management label Ready Sounds Ltd in terms of press and gig bookings. Check out the band on the link here: THE COLOURS
We are also an unoffical booking agent to many bands. Events co-ordinators contact us and tell us what they are after, and we throw high quality, professional bands at them!
We are working with other bands in various capacities/ looking at working with other bands....to be announced in the near future.
IF YOU WANT A GIG - WE ONLY WORK WITH BANDS WE HAVE SEEN LIVE!
WE CURRENTLY AND FOR MANY MONTHS HAVE A HUGE MYSPACE BACK LOG OF UNANSWERED MESSAGES! SOME OF THESE WILL NEVER BE ANSWERED DUE TO A TIME ISSUE - PARTICULARLY THE ONES WHICH HAVE MADE NO EFFORT TO READ THE INFORMATION BELOW IN FULL:
BANDS IF YOU WANT A GIG: Please email us a bit about your band and a myspace/website link to your songs to demos@bwmusic.co.uk but if you want, you can also just send us a friend request. We listen to every friend request and catalogue any good bands details in a database, upon which we will contact you if we get to see you live and like the show. We are not so good at dealing with myspace messages. We definately prefer people emailing us on the email addresses at the bottom of this text.
PLAYING OUR NIGHTS:
We will need to come and watch your band live before we book you for our own shows. Bands are looked after at our gigs. We work hard at promoting the shows, and they get extensive local media coverage. However, this does not mean a band should make no effort whatsoever! With our work, and your work combined, it contributes to a high quality night.
We will provide free beer / soft drinks / food to the playing artists. We develop your fan mailing list at the gigs for you. Depending on how much effort bands make with helping boost the crowd numbers, bands also get paid on a tiered system. Out of town bands get money towards their petrol costs also. Any band that makes a seriously good impression on us at our own live nights we may be interested in working with you longer term. We have recently booked bands into universities and nationally known venues in Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Blackburn, Nottingham, Guildford, Oxford, Reading, London, Brighton, Swindon, Bristol, Birmingham, Kent and also have developed a media presence in terms of street team work, regional newspapers / magazines /radio in these cities to help the band promote their gigs, and develop their fanbase in a town. This also maximises their chances of bigger and better bookings with other promoters.
PROMOTIONAL SERVICES:
Contact us to discuss what you are after. The kind of things we do for bands are listed below:
1. Book them gigs with other promoters across the country
2. Design posters / flyers for your gigs and distribute them in the town of your gig through street teams and putting posters in record shops etc
3. We can advertise your gigs in multiple gig listing sources such as websites/ newspaper/ magazine/ radio etc
4. We write press releases for publication in newspaper / internet media - this could be a gig preview for one of your nights, or an EP release etc
5. We could organise a show for you to promote your single launch etc
Please contact us to discuss what you are after. If it is of interest to us we will get back to you.
DEMO FEEDBACK:
We do get A LOT of bands in contact with us. We will contact you if we want to come and watch you live. We strongly prefer bands contacting us to our email address rather than myspace, for the simple reason that it is much easier to manage our mails in microsoft outlook rather than myspace! You can also post demos to us, but we can not return them. We are unlikely to be able to repsond to every mail we get, but if you do want feedback, and haven't heard from us, do message us again to remind us.
