| | Music |
My favorite genres include Rhythm and Blues, Soul, Afrolatin/Afrocaribbean music(Salsa, Merengue, Punta, Soca, Reggae, Cumbia, etc.), Classic Rock, Contemporary Rock, Pop, Classical, Jazz, some Country, and World Music (I love Putumayo!). I'm not feeling hardcore rap that much. I'm big on lyrics and music that has meaning to me and makes me feel good.
| | Movies |
I'm a huge movie fan and I try to go to the movies as often as I can. My favorite movie genres include drama, comedy, romance, fantasy/sci-fi, documentary, indie, action, and pretty much anything that has a good story and lets me escape for a couple of hours. Some of my favorite actors/actresses include:
Johnny Depp

| | Television |
I don't watch much TV these days but the shows I absolutely love include Sex and the City, Seinfield, Six Feet Under, The Sopranos, Chapelle Show, Mind of Mencia, Reno 911, Family Guy, The Twilight Zone, and Real Time with Bill Maher. Also, the History Channel, Discovery Times, Discovery Health, and National Geographic Channel are so addictive. | | Books | I'm a big 'ol geek and I love to read! My favorites include the works of Shakespeare, John Steinbeck ("The Pearl" is a masterpiece), "The House Behind The Cedars" by Charles W. Chesnut, "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe, "The Seven Daughters of Eve" and "Adam's Curse" by Dr. Bryan Sykes, "Black Indians" by William Loren Katz, "North American Indians" by George Catlin, and "The Devil's Highway" by Luis Alberto Urrea just to name a few.
| | Heroes | ***My Ancestors/Elders*** The Foundation on which I stand!
**My grandmother (1931-2007)**, who raised my siblings and I pretty much on her own. She took care of me from the age of 3 weeks until she became ill when I was 17 years old. It is through her that I know the true meaning of unconditional love, humanity, and womanhood. **My mother** for teaching me that no matter how hard life knocks you down, to always get up, dust yourself off, and keep trying. **My father**, although complicated, is the most erudite and fascinating human being that I have ever met and he's always been supportive of my endeavors. I will be forever grateful for the science, history, political, and cultural discussions that I've had with him. Also, anyone who stands up for what is right is a hero in my book.
