Black Beach was a greasy low-fi rock band from the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago. Our name referenced a political prison in Africa and a nude beach in La Jolla, California.
In the course of our 6-month tenure we were threatened with a lawsuit for copyright infringement; labeled "frat boys" by an angry Ohio art student; upstaged by a Stevie Winwood cover band; and pelted with hockey tape. We persevered long enough to record 3 scratchy demos to Tascam 8-track. Then we called it a day.
Much love to all the Loyola kids, barflies, girlfriends, neighbors, "cougars," and weird stalkers who comprised our audience. I guess we should also thank the dive bars that let us play; thanks, dive bars. Thanks also to all the other bands we played with, namely, Hardly Working, Maya Vada, and Hay Perro.
Thanks again for listening, critiquing, and going to the shows.
