So here's me: I graduated from UNT in 1999 with a BS in Mathematics. As soon as I escaped, I moved to the Alaskan bush with my (now ex) wife and 7 year old daughter. We lived in Chevak, an Eskimo village in the Yukon-Kuskakwim delta area. We both worked at the village school (Kashunamiut in the Cup'ik language) teaching Eskimos. But of course they're the ones who did the teaching. Their culture is amazing. So honest and minimal. They never rush and they truly revere their older people. If an elder says something, they listen close. Very respectful. It was pretty cool. After two years, we left Alaska and bought a small RV in Seattle. We then toured the US for a year and a half looking for the perfect place to live. We home-schooled our daughter and along the way visited dozens of intentional communities (communes). At these communities, I always volunteered to do work in order to show my appreciation for their hospitality. At one in particular, the Alpha Farm in Oregon, I was sent out to remove some blackberry vines that had overgrown their cider shed. Even though I had heavy gloves and pruning tools, it soon became evident that I was facing an enemy way out of my league. Two hours into the job, I was covered with scratches and punctures. To make things worse, it was a very hot day, and I was literally salting my wounds with my own sweat. Very unpleasant. By four hours into the job, I started to envision an evil woodland spirit called "The Blackberry King" who found joy in the suffering of innocent humans such as myself. By the end of the day I had a general idea of the story and I started writing immediately. I worked on the novel for the rest of the trip and ended up finishing it up in the town we eventually settled down in - Fayetteville Arkansas. My next book is a memoir about my time as a supernatural thriller about a man slowly going mad on the Tundra. I'm on about page 230 as of June, 2009. I'll keep you posted!
I've been reading since I was a small child. Here's some of my FAVORITE BOOKS: "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert Heinlein. "Something Wicked This Way Comes" by Ray Bradburry. Anything by Kurt Vonnegut. "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy by Tolkien. "The Stand" and "Firestarter" by Stephen King. "Dune" by Frank Herbert. The Alvin Maker books by Orson Scott Card. The Aurthurian series by Jack Whyte. "Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley. "Another Roadside Attraction" by Tom Robbins. "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. "Weaveworld" and "Imajica" by Clive Barker. "The Lord of the Flies" by William Golding. And many, many more...

THE BLACKBERRY KING (a novel)'s Friend Space (Top 17)
Hi! Just wanted to make sure all my friends know that my 2nd horror novel SACRIFICE was released this month - and is in stores everywhere, including Amazon.com. I hope you'll check out the book! Here are a couple reviews it's gotten:
“SACRIFICE is not for the timid or weak of heart, it is a full frontal assault on your senses. It is a dark, brutal, bloody and terribly frightening book. Everson went deep into some dark abyss to bring this book to the light of day.... I highly recommend Sacrifice.” —Famous Monsters of Filmland
“John Everson manages in SACRIFICE to dispense buckets of blood, provide edgy perversity, and walk the tenuous tightrope of horror and sex without falling: It’s rather an amazing feat.” –Hell Notes
Black Rook in Rainy Weather On the stiff twig up there Hunches a wet black rook Arranging and rearranging its feathers in the rain. I do not expect a miracle Or an accident
To set the sight on fire In my eye, not seek Any more in the desultory weather some design, But let spotted leaves fall as they fall, Without ceremony, or portent.
Although, I admit, I desire, Occasionally, some backtalk From the mute sky, I can't honestly complain: A certain minor light may still Leap incandescent
Out of the kitchen table or chair As if a celestial burning took Possession of the most obtuse objects now and then --- Thus hallowing an interval Otherwise inconsequent
By bestowing largesse, honor, One might say love. At any rate, I now walk Wary (for it could happen Even in this dull, ruinous landscape); sceptical, Yet politic; ignorant
Of whatever angel may choose to flare Suddenly at my elbow. I only know that a rook Ordering its black feathers can so shine As to seize my senses, haul My eyelids up, and grant
A brief respite from fear Of total neutrality. With luck, Trekking stubborn through this season Of fatigue, I shall Patch together a content
Of sorts. Miracles occur, If you care to call those spasmodic Tricks of radiance miracles. The wait's begun again, The long wait for the angel. For that rare, random descent.
just wanted you to know i really send my very best to you and kim~~i love you guys so much...i truly believe you are meant to be together. I really know that in my heart and soul.
everything passes you know...the only moment is now and like you say, love wins.
You know all those folks who send out “Friend requests”, or the folks you send “Friend Requests” to?
The ones you never hear again from, once you’re on the “List”?
Well, I am not one of those.
I know you’re busy, and I am too...sometimes busy with things than in the end don’t really matter.
But I wanted to take a moment to try and keep in touch, see what’s new, and maybe share something that will make your day a bit brighter.
Be Someone
Be someone who listens, and you will be heard. Be someone who cares, and you will be loved. Be someone who gives, and you will be blessed. Be someone who comforts, and you will know peace.
Be someone who genuinely seeks to understand, and you will be wise. Be someone kind, someone considerate, and you will be admired. Be someone who values truth, and you will be respected. Be someone who takes action, and you will move life forward.
Be someone who lifts others higher, and your life will be rich. Be someone filled with gratitude, and there will be no end to the things for which you'll be thankful.
Be someone who lives with joy, with purpose, as your own light brightly shines. Be, in every moment, the special someone you are truly meant to be.
I’m just stopping by to say “Thanks for being in my Circle of MySpace Friends”, and to hopefully make you smile today.
The Bathtub Test
During a visit to the mental asylum, a visitor asked the Director how do you determine whether or not a patient should be institutionalized.
"Well," said the Director, "we fill up a bathtub, then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup and a bucket to the patient and ask him or her to empty the bathtub."
"Oh, I understand," said the visitor. "A normal person would use the bucket because it's bigger than the spoon or the teacup."
"No" said the Director, "A normal person would pull the plug. Do you want a bed near the window?"
ARE YOU GOING TO PASS THIS ON, OR DO YOU WANT THE BED NEXT TO MINE ?
