Reginald Parrot aka Reggie P. is the newest phenomenon of the revolutionary Southern Music movement. Known widely for his rampant freestyles and infamous battles, Reggie P. is a major force to be reckoned with when it comes to the mic. His style is very rambunctious, raw, and poetic with a commanding presence that captivates listeners whenever he is heard.
Birthed and bred in the belly of the S.W.A.T.S. (Southwest Atlanta), Reggie P. began crafting his art at the early age of 8, where he became highly influenced by pioneers of the “Golden Age” of Hip Hop. Such influences included Outkast, Scarface, Geto Boys, Notorious B.I.G., 2Pac, The Fugees, A Tribe Called Quest, Digital Underground, 8-Ball & MJG, and many others. With such a mixture of different influences, this allowed Reggie to develop & formulate a unique style of his own. He soon tested his skills, involving himself in rap battles in his stomping grounds of Ashby & MLK (Adamsville). Many contested his skills but few failed to defeat the self-proclaimed “Freestyle King”.
After a period of battles and entering into local talent showcases, Reggie decided it was time to elevate his status on the Atlanta music scene. He soon entered himself into the “Battle Rap” segment of Hot 107.9’s Durty Boyz Show, where he battled other contestants in contingence to become the freestyle champion of the show. Reggie P. moved up through the ranks as listeners of the show called up week after week to vote for him as the contestant of their choice. He battled contestants such as pre-106 & Park Battle Champ, S.U.N.Y, whom went round for round before it was decided Reggie P. was the CHAMPION.
Time passed and Reggie soon found himself undiscovered and unsigned, even after being on radio for nearly 2 years. He was recognized by record executives abroad but none officially signed him to a record deal. They pigeon-held him to the typical “Battle Rapper” concept instead of the TRUE artist he is. It was not until long Reggie was introduced to a local producer named Michael “P.B.M.” Williams of the production company, Monopoly Product. P.B.M. began grooming Reggie into a well-organized and seasoned recording artist, enabling him to display his versatility and adapt to production like no other. Under the guidance of Monopoly Product, Reggie was able to record and debut his first single, “Chill Bump Muzik”, on local & college radio stations abroad in the summer of 2006.
On the brink of Reggie’s pursuit to stardom not to mention the years of blood, sweat, and tears he put in…an opportunity presented itself in the artist’s favor. During, what seemed to be an endless process of week-in and week-out rap battle victories at Hot 107.9fm, Reggie P. gained the interest of West Coast rapper, The Game. The Game was on a promotional tour for his sophomore release, Doctor’s Advocate, in Atlanta as a special guest on the Durty Boyz Show. Reggie went through a series of rap battles before being chained by The Game, making him the first artist signed to the rapper’s Black Wall Street South imprint. From there he went on the road with The Game, performing and gaining much attention as a hot commodity in Europe, Canada, and throughout the U.S. .Due to unknown reasons, Reggie and The Game, along with the Black Wall Street South imprint, severed ties soon thereafter.
Currently, Reggie P. has recorded many songs which will be featured on future projects and an up-coming mix album titled, “Reggie P: The Inauguration”. With heavy hitter production by Monopoly Product, you can GUARANTEE Reggie P. will revitalize and revive the music scene not ONLY in the South but internationally. Check for the latest on Reggie P. as he increases the shock value everywhere with the highly-anticipated NEW single for ALL the New Era fitted cap rockers out there titled, “ROCK MY FITTED”.
“If you were to compare me to anybody in the game I would be a mixture of Biggie meets Pac to talk about Outkast (You get it?). I do this rap because I’m motivated by rocking shows and moving the crowds….at the same time being able to reach everybody on a personal level, ya dig.” –Reggie P.
