BAND BIO :

Blackbutton is an alternative rock duo led by front man and guitarist J. M. Tavenner with Anshul Jain on drums.

Formed in late 2007, the pair started weaving drums into songs which Tavenner had been playing and performing acoustically since 2006. Within the throes of a dingy basement, the band quickly found its own way into a lucid performance style and all new material. The end product is a deeper, harder sound reminiscent of the Delta Blues and a modern distinction of rock, with riffs that stay in your head long afterwards and lyrics that pull at your own experiences One melody is dark and weeping with a sharp whine on the guitar backed by a gentle rhythm on the high hat, and the next Tavenner slips a metal slide on his finger and the two become fast paced and sweaty as their energy lights up the stage.

The band has been performing publically in the New England area since 2008, building a local following and underground buzz. Their highly anticipated debut record was released in May 2009. With new tracks and the rock/blues sound that their fans had grown to love, the band made an official splash onto the Boston music community. The band teamed up with Tinderbox Music for their record's radio campaign in early August 2009. Since then, the record has charted in the top 30 on radio stations nationwide. Their follow-up record is due out in May of 2010, entitled Gun Shot Lover.
