Supa Dups and Willy Chin from Black Chiney Soundsystem just dropped a bumba-red menace on their MySpace. The latest much-anticipated installment of the mixtape series that made them infamous—the first in almost 4 years!—it’s the usual onslaught of clash vocals over rap beats interspersed with weird Miami humor. (This seems to consist mainly of Bobby Chin cranking grocery stores Jerky Boys-style and saying things like “Badman nuh friend fish” and “Mi wan put me dick in yuh fat bread” ).
Even better for us, the track-listing reads like an index of FADER dancehall coverage. There’s Buju (F40) and Kardinal Offishall (F42) over Shawty Lo, Ele (F23) and Swizz Beats (F40) on the underutilized “Jump,” Mavado (F40 & F42) and Jay-Z on the Mission rhythm and Munga (F45) and Busy Signal (F39) over the “Flashing Lights” beat. Then there’s Leftside (F34) on Snoop’s “Sexual Seduction” and damn, even Beat Constructions get a bligh with Serani from the Daseca production crew (F43), who is doing his thing as a singer nowadays.
The most notable exception is newcomer Demarco—his anthem “Duppy Know Who fi Frighten” kicks off the tape and he pops up on several later chunes as well. It’s a damn good thing our profile on him already went to press and will be on newsstands soon!
