And just when you think you hear the trumpets of Taps being played at the funeral of music, you realize that over saturation isn't killing music, it's saving it. Because it's the return of the live band, and real musicians -- leaving everyone else standing at the wayside, bullshit in hand.
blackcowboy is a cold tall beverage to the thirsty music lover who has been quenching his thirst with salt instead of water.
The seed of this band was planted in the mid-90's when Jonah Johnson and Richard "Pookie" Woods started making music together while growing up in their small L.A. neighborhood. A couple of bands, band members and a decade later, blackcowboy finally found it's roots with Jonah as the front man sharing producing credits with his long time childhood friend and keyboardist "Pookie". They eventually hooked up with drummer (and fellow L.A. native) Nick Pavey and two Arizona imports; guitarist Sean Curtis and bassist Jason Weeks to complete their pack.
blackcowboy has been compared to Coldplay, Radiohead and The Doves with its shimmering guitars and perfectly touched keyboards, anchored by Jonah's eerily beautiful voice. A sound worthy of being played in Heaven's smoking room where all the great dead musicians spend their time.
When asked what success would mean to them, longevity comes to Jonah's mind, "to be able to keep growing and writing." And you get the sense that Jonah will be able to do exactly that, and remain a witness as he rides through every phase of his life.
