Stumbling out of the underground club scenes of London and New York, Black Daniel are the brothers L.D & L.E May, and Craig Louis Higgins Jr.
The brothers were born and raised in London. As DJs, producers and founding members of much revered electro-acid-house act Medicine 8, their day jobs involved heavy travel; spinning records and performing across the globe from Buenos Aires to Tokyo to Moscow.
Across the Atlantic, Craig Higgins Jr was becoming a face on the NYC club scene, earning his stripes booking at legendary New York house label, Strictly Rhythm. As a hedonistic club promoter and sometime window-dresser, Craig was becoming infamous and synonymous with putting on the perilously addictive ‘Con-fu-sion’ nights across town, and it was at Filter 14 (former home of the drag queen party, Jackie 60) that Craig became acquainted with the May brothers.
Mutual understanding and a sharing of similar passions (cough) ensued, which resulted in endless transatlantic to and fro’ing. It also resulted in the forming of Black Daniel.
With a strong spirit, swagger and an intoxicating clutch of dirty electro-tinged, bass-heavy rock’n’roll songs, Black Daniel merge their combined dancefloor history with a confident, gang mentality and now being joined by best buddies PMC & Quinn of LEGENDARY drunken acid country duo Popular Tyre for the live shows, they’ll be hitting a town near you.
In the past year or so they’ve played big clubs like the Hiro Ballroom in NYC, really cool small places like Death By Audio in Brooklyn and Bonnie & Clyde’s RR at the 12 Bar in London, festivals like the Tales of the Jackalope and supported Kasabian on their last European tour.
Black Daniel’s debut album “Hard Times on the Way” is due for release in August on Dust Bowl Recordings/Pieces of Eight Records and will be preceded by the single “Chelsea’s Teardrops” in June. . .
