Blackerby Violin Shop was started almost fifteen years ago by two prominent Austin string teachers. The founders, themselves professional players, understood the needs of both their colleagues and the beginning student. This meant both offering high quality and affordable rental instruments, and instruments for the professional or semi-professional string player.
Accessories
Blackerby offers a wide selection of accessories for string instruments such as cases, strings, rosin, music stands and stand lights, metronomes/tuners, and gifts. Some examples of the brands of string we carry are Pirastro, Thomastik, D'Addario, Larsen, and Jargar. Call our shop (512)469-9343 for specific requests or inquiries.
Repairs
Blackerby Violin Shop has the most complete repair and restoration shop for strings in Central Texas. Repairs are done using time-tested methods and materials that stress a conservative and "reversible" approach. We provide a written estimate up front and get prior approval from the customer before proceeding if there is significant deviation from the estimate. Sound post adjustment or sound post patch, bring your instrument to us for professional and affordable repair.
Sheet Music Library
The Blackerby Violin Shop sheet music library includes over 10,000 titles for violin, viola, cello, and bass. Our collection includes solo works, chamber music works, a large collection of pedagogical systems and exercises, and much more. Contact us to purchase the sheet music title you are looking for or visit our sheet music library for inspiration.
Lessons
We are dedicated to providing the highest quality music instruction by the highest caliber teachers. We believe that students learn to love music and love playing their instruments if they have a strong technical foundation. The student will learn that it is more important (and ultimately more fulfulling) to play Twinkle, Twinkle in tune with a beautiful tone than to scratch out the theme to Harry Potter. It is also our belief that lessons should be fun and engaging within a positive and supportive atmosphere.
You're a Led Zeppelin fan from way back but have always been fascinated by the violin as well. Or perhaps The Devil Went Down to Georgia is more your style. Regardless, these adult beginner workshops will set you on your way. But remember, our core philosophy is that a strong technical foundation, learned from the beginning, will lay the necessary groundwork to a fulfilling string-playing experience. You may not leave the workshops playing Stairway to Heaven, but you'll be on your way to a lifetime of heavenly music.
Electric Instruments
We're now the exclusive dealer for NS Design violins, violas, and cellos in central Texas! For our first foray into the electronic world, we're going with the best. NS Design was founded in 1990 by renowned instrument designer Ned Steinberger. His unique designs and state of the art electronics combine to meet the needs of an evolving musical community.
