"They were all phenomenal players and it resulted in what I feel was an extremely magical night...not only for the audience but for the musicians as well.
It began with a great local rock band Black Eyed Susan warming up the crowd. I was very impressed with their funky bluesy rock show and a lovely lady joining them on stage to top off the combustible non-drowsy nightcap. There'd be NO sleeping tonight!!"
Black Eyed Susan- One of the hippest left-hand keyboard bass grooves I've heard in a while (Korg Triton, as I recall) with cool right hand comping on a different keyboard...sounds like a very good bass player jamming with a very good keyboard player. Sings well too. Drummer locked in tight, cuts loose with some spicy fills in the right places but not too much. Guitar player has a nice sustain, warms you up with a laid back melody line but knows how to burn and show off some scary chops before bringing you back to the melody, also a good singer. He doesn't just play the same stuff over and over, got some tricks up his sleeve. When I saw them 12/29/07 they had a sax player that fit right in, took some nice solos but seemed to know when to back off and just groove. The vocals are mellow, some strong harmony appealing to a pop audience, but the folks (like me) that want to hear some serious jamming were not disappointed. If you like the live sound of this band, their reasonably priced CD sounds the way you hoped it would. I don't know these guys, only saw them one time when I was out east recently. I'd like to see them again, though, and I would not be one bit surprised to see Black Eyed Susan do quite well. Recommended.
