BLACK ROBOTS
Nuts and Bolts. Black Robots (connected magazines March Demo of the Month) are deeply grounded in simplicity and honesty in equal parts. A strong, raw punk ethic and a something to prove attitude is what Black Robots are about. Drawing influence from a slew of bands including, Sonic Youth, Death from Above, Wavves and Autolux to name but a few. Taking parts from all of these bands and swaying between raw and messy to sparce and melodic. Building a reputation as one of the most exciting new live bands in Ireland at the moment. Thier shows are renowned for being a mixture of energy and chaos. Having already played with bands such as Katie Kim, Neosupervital and Tricky, Black Robots have truely found thier live feet. Sarahs primal beats drive and structre the songs and Deen's raw guitar style is straight and to the pointless and serves as a carrier for the melody. Simple riffs or beats are used as the basis or opening idea and the two mould and structure around this. One part drums, one part guitar, two parts vocals and one well oiled unit.

THE SILENT MINUTE
The Silent Minute is the new project by songwriter John Barrett, former guitarist with the indie merchants Tenspeedracer. Recorded late last year with just a rhythm section in his Perth home, Barrett has recorded one of the most honest records you are going to hear. Think along the lines of Elliot Smith, Harvest era Neil Young and the simplicity of Bon Iver then you are on the right track. The first notable element of this record is Barrett’s vocal ability to combine raw emotion with the kind of honesty needed to carry an album of this nature. Tracks like ‘Outside a Mirror’ and ‘the Fallen’ let you sit back and just get drawn into the stories being told. ‘She Only Overdosed’ with the lyrics ‘you got to look at the bad side, to know when it’s good’ suggesting the importance of seeing both sides.
The swipe of ‘Jack of Diamonds’ coming in from the early school of Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees) and John Lennon’s Nashville years draws the album closer to a classic finish.
A tale of love, life, loss and a view on a fractured society, Barrett uses his personal experiences as a template for him to tell it as he sees it.
Summed up this record will definitely be a runner for next years Choice music award.
The album gets a release monday 9th november. Available on download and hard copy from independent record stores or from the Black Feathers website.
