| About Black Hole Trio |
|
Dave and Jerry began their longtime musical collaboration and friendship in 2001 slaving at Northwestern University, played together with the eight piece swing band The Sound and the Fury and the festival blues band Blues Savant.
Jerry King ( a percussion major, Bloom School of Jazz veteran, and pupil of local jazz drummer Joel Spencer) is one of the busier drummers on the Chicago scene with seats in local bands Help Desk, Dave Roth and the Issues, and Frank Tribes Band, as well past rock outfit Moxie Blue.
Dave Sistanich studied jazz guitar under former Gary Burton sideman Jerry Hahn at Portland State University and went on to play in jam and funk bands the Jiggle Show and Illogic as well as several gigs playing standards in Portland, OR before coming back to Chicago to join Jerry in the aforemetioned collaborations.
This complex instrumental music has brewed beneath the surface for a couple of years. After recording a one shot EP with West Coast bassist Greg Jackson, Thom Miecznikwowski was recruited to play bass. Thom is a longtime veteran of the Chicago rock and jazz/fusion scene, with recent stints in fusion band Toolbox, MoonZoo, and pop band Life on Mars.
Most recently, Blackhole Trio acquired Dan Krzywicki ..boards. Dan played a few years in Indiana with blues/rock band Shoeshine and the Muddy Souls, before returning to Chicago. After some offshoot gigs with funk/jam band Minor Blowout, he found his place with Blackhole trio, injecting an erie jazz ambience into the music. Dan's influences include John Medeski, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock.
