Art on Deck opening Skateboard Art Show Friday, Feb 8, 6pm United States Art Authority Live music and full bar in gallery, 9pm Art on Deck Skateboard Art Show Saturday, Feb 9, Noon-7pm Skate demo by Find and Grind Live music and full bar in gallery, 9pm The United States Art Authority will host “Art on Deck,” an exhibit of selected skateboards on loan from local private collector Warren McKinney. “This show is a fundraiser for the Austin EcoSchool. There are a few decks from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s, but most are from the 90’s through recent issues. They include one-of-a-kind prototypes, signed limited editions, rare foreign releases, and some ‘holy grails’ among skateboard collectors. The main focus is on the artwork itself – it just happens to use a skateboard as its canvas.” The exhibit opens on Friday, Feb 8, at 6pm with DJ Chicken George, followed by live music including The Golden Boys, Opposite Day, Split Hoof, Mercyy, Blackholicus, and Crapulence as well as a full bar in the gallery beginning at 9 pm. The gallery reopens for viewing on Saturday, Feb 9 from noon until 7pm, with a special skateboarding demo hosted by Find and Grind Skate Shop. Doors reopen at 9pm for live music and a full bar; stay tuned for Saturday's exciting lineup. All proceeds benefit Austin EcoSchool, a nonprofit “green” elementary school bridging the gap between homeschooling and private school.
