BLACKIES WHO ROCK (1000 BEST ALBUMS)'s Blurbs |
About me:
WHO DOESN'T LOVE A RACIALLY BIASED MUSIC LIST?
So we're about to get separate but equal up in this myspace trick. Or maybe 'Separate But Bout As Evil' is closer to the truth. In any event w'ere going to go where no blogspace or chatroom has gone before. We're going to tell you who made the '1000 BEST ALBUMS BY CULLUD FOLK WHO ROCK. All according to Me, moi, Greg.Tate, The Ironman, Mr Burnt Sugar, Mr Black Rock Coalition, Mr Godfather of Hiphop Journalism, Mr AfroFuturizm hisself. A race man by birth, a Cultural Nationalist and AfroGonzo Journalist by training, a Black Bohemian Freedom Fighter by oxymoronic temperament.
THE CRITERION
Because I Say So, mostly. Because I believe in the one-drop rule. Because like our friends the Black Brits we think anybody not claiming White Supremacy as their religion is Black enough for us. Because per the rules and bylaws of the Black Rock Coalition bands must be Black-led and Black conceived to be inducted into our club-- the only one that will have them, whether they like it or not--and get rudely tacked onto our Loud Proud and Belligerent Wall of Fame.
THE PURPOSE
To clarify what the hell we musicologically mean by 'Black Rock' and 'Blackies Who Rock'.
Which is to clarify what we mean by Black Music.
Which is to clarify what you need to hear before you even think about trying to have having an intelligent conversation about Black Music, Black Rock and Blackies Who Rock..
THE ORGANIZING PRINCIPLE
Like August Wilson we're going to give each decade of the 20th and 21st century its due as far as documenting the total African American musical experience.
We're going to focus first on the decades of the 60s 70s 80s 90s and 2000's. Mainly because we're going to focus on full length albums first. The next set of lists will encompass the decades from the 50s back to the 1900s and will focus on artists and songs
THE GENRE THING
You will note that there are albums on my list by artists who are often classified as R&B, Soul, Funk, Jazz, Folk, Reggae,Afrobeat,Hiphop etc etc. Well to hell with all those numbnutt music industry categories for selling Our Music .Far as I'm concerned if you Doing Your Own Thing In Music and You Black, You Rock.
YOUR ROLE
Each decade will be represented by 200 albums of my extremely biased choosing.BUT: I will only list my 175 top albums for each decade--leaving YOU free to complete the list with 25 albums you love and got the nerve to think my expert, scholarly, and rude assessments have unfairly banished to the cornfields.
THE ANNOTATED VERSION
Eventually we will have capsule descriptions for each album written by myself or one of our cracked-out team of ecumenical Black Music specialists. For now however we are going to just offer our first list:
