The first BIR-release is a mini album by Leonard Las Vegas. 6 Songs in 30 Minutes. This night album owns a dark and dense atmosphere, and unites fast and mellow shoegaze songs á la My Vitriol, MBV or Flying Saucer Attack with electro influenced tracks like those of Bracken, The Notwist and Aphex Twin. Full length debut by Leonard Las Vegas. Pretty different to LLV001, cause this time the arrangements strictly excluded any keyboards (instead you get guitars, lap steel, bass, violin, piano). The result: a trip of an album, ranging from tight, dancy, wavy alternative shoegaze-pop to dark psychedelic 7 minute adventures. This album is much catchier than LLV001, and you..ll find at least one sentence in every songs that will stick into your head. 55 Minutes of crude, ironic, sarcastic, melancholic and critic stories about various ends of the world. Colourful, edgy, noisy, unique. The three-piece creates something new with the old four elements that are noise-rock, dance, hardcore and pop. And who says you need a guitar to be loud? Jet Pilot spit on rock traditions and hit you with distorted bass, acid keyboards and epileptic over-the-top vocals. Fuck the guitar! Additionally, the lyrics which are a blend of sarcasm, bad habits, (self-) irony and absolute, plane, 100% truth(!!!) will soon lead to the conclusion that Jet Pilot's debut album is like nothing you've heard before. (BIR004) Leonard Las Vegas - Endstand EP.
From a joke to a serious project. These are the first German songs by LLV. Actually, only one song was planned as b-side for a future release, but LLV turned out having fun doing this and decided to record a whole EP. 5 tracks, 20 minutes. The songs are German interpretations of songs from "Naked Feet On Highway Darkness": "In The Tank Of A Funeral Car", "Secret Weapon", "No Need For Wires", "One Synapse On Fire" and "We Shot The Bird, We Burned All Trees, We Left For Good". The sarcastic, dramatic, bitter, melancholic, funny aspects and tones of the original versions managed to survive, what's not only the result of a rather free translation that avoids a simple reworking of the original lyrics. Still, the translated siblings belong to the same cosmos as their big brothers. Gatefold sleeve, individually pasted, stamped, printed, lyrics included on two lilac extra sheets. (BIR005) miumi - blips EP.
Rarely will you come across bands that seem so indulged in their world and their visions and that have the ambition to accomplish their goals to be different. miumi build their own world, and not just through music. miumi call themselves "multimedia-based", their live gigs are accompanied by films and pictures. Of course, their music alone works and creates pictures in the listener's head. A scenario that -in the beginning- sounds like a dark, wet cellar filled with vague intentions and feelings. What's the band up to? Are we safe? Yes we are. miumi's 30 minute trip "blips" is not a threat to mankind, still it's massive, wide and from time to time loud. At the same time it's dreamy and somehow peaceful. "Blips" gives us a slow start and throws in sprinkles of trip-hop and progressive elements. They take their time. All songs flow into one another what underlines the image of a closed world. Experimental post-rock, ambient. miumi know what they do, they know what they want. They even play the cello and the theremin. See parts of their DVD on www.miumi.org and the music will gain even more power. Sweeping images of live concerts, professional shootings of the band, atmospheric moments of clarity. The voice reminds of Thom Yorke, the electronics would fit to Massive Attack, the instrumental eruptions could come from yet not written Oceansize songs. From heimpogo's minimalistic vocoder version, to Lumières Claires' impressive Notwist meets Primal Scream mix, to Baskfields haunting industrial track and Leonard Las Vegas spaced out choir remix, every song on this release is very different from another.
