The band was formed in Rome, in 1995, when the guitarist Fabrizio and the bassist Giuliano met the singer Francesco after responding to an advertisement he put in a local musical newspaper. After a few time, the drummer (and flute player) Alex joined the new born band, soon named “Black Jack” because of the title of one of their songs, composed during their first rehearsal sessions in studio.
Therefore, the BJ guys started their own “musical trip” composing, arranging and recording their first original songs inspired by some different great past and contemporaneous rock-bands, like Led Zeppelin, Queen, U2, Faith No More and Radiohead, but also by the 70’-80’ progressive-rock’s Italian tradition, like “Area”, “Le Orme” and “Timoria”. Afterwards, these songs were collected in a pair of promo-albums : “Black Jack” (1997) and “Il Mago – The Sorcerer” (2000).
At the same time, the band started its live activity, playing both famous rock song’s covers (often re-arranged their own way) and original stuff.
Between 1996 and 2002 the BJ come forward in more than 100 stages, keeping, on some occasion, local medias interested about their music (Spazio Radio, 1997 – Tele Obiettivo TV, 2000).
In 2003, on account of some cases of life, the BJ guys separated, but everyone of them kept trying to carry on his musical project, playing in other bands and took up their live activity each one by himself.
These experiences led the 4 guys to meet again at the end of 2005, for a new common project: a new album (afterward named ”Il Viaggio”- “The Trip”) containing some re-arranged songs from the past production and new stuff too. At the same time, the band took up again its live activity, coming forward in a good many stages during the whole 2006.
At the end of 2006 (November, 28), the BJ joined the musical community of “Sellaband” (see more details at www.sellaband.com/blackjack ) in order to spread abroad their music and make themselves known in most countries in the world (and, why not, reach the goal of 50k $ to make definitively their musical dream true). After a few months (May 2007), the album “Il Viaggio” saw the light, but soon after the drummer Alex leaved definitively the band because of some personal and working matters (June 2007).
During the summer period, a new drummer, Claudio, joined the band, finally once more complete.
Now the Black Jack are recording their new album (that is due for September 2008) and keeping on their live activity : YES, BLACK JACK ARE BACK!!!

La band nasce a Roma, nel 1995, quando il chitarrista Fabrizio ed il bassista Giuliano incrociano i propri destini con il cantante Francesco, dopo aver risposto separatamente ad una inserzione da questi posta su una locale rivista di musica. Poco tempo dopo, anche il batterista (nonché flautista) Alex si unisce alla neonata band, ben presto battezzata “Black Jack”, dal titolo di uno dei brani composti, arrangiati e suonati nelle prime sessioni di prove del gruppo.
Ha inizio, così, il “viaggio musicale” dei Black Jack, con i primi brani di propria produzione, che in parte traggono ispirazione da alcune grandi rock-band del passato e contemporanee, come Led Zeppelin, Queen, U2, Faith No More e Radiohead, ma anche dalla tradizione del progressive-rock italiano degli anni 70’ e 80’, come “Area”, “Le Orme” e “Timoria”. In seguito, i pezzi partoriti in questo primo periodo verranno raccolti in un paio di promo-album : “Black Jack” (1997) e “Il Mago” (2000).
Contemporaneamente, inizia anche l’attività Live della band, con un repertorio comprendente sia covers di brani storici del Rock (spesso opportunamente riarrangiate per renderle compatibili con lo stile della band), sia pezzi originali.
Tra il 1996 ed il 2002, i BJ si esibiscono su oltre 100 palchi diversi, riuscendo, in alcuni casi, anche a catturare l’attenzione dei media locali sulla loro musica.
Nel 2003, a causa di alcune differenze di vedute, i BJ decidono di prendere strade diverse, continuando comunque, ciascuno per proprio conto, la loro avventura musicale separatamente, collaborando con altre band e proseguendo l’attività Live.
Dopo queste esperienze, i 4 ragazzi si riuniscono nuovamente verso la fine del 2005, per un nuovo, più maturo, progetto comune : un album autoprodotto (poi intitolato “Il Viaggio”) nel quale raccogliere alcuni brani del primo corso, opportunamente rielaborati, insieme ad altri nuovi. Contemporaneamente, la band ricomincia la propria attività Live, esibendosi su numerosi palchi durante tutto il 2006.
Verso la fine dell'anno, i BJ entrano nella community musicale “Sellaband” (v. maggiori dettagli su www.sellaband.com/blackjack ), con lo scopo di farsi conoscere e far conoscere la propria musica nella maggior parte dei paesi del mondo (e, perché no, raggiungere l’obiettivo dei 50k dollari per veder realizzato definitivamente il loro sogno). Dopo pochi mesi (maggio 2007), l’album “Il Viaggio” viene pubblicato, ma ben presto il batterista Alex lascia definitivamente la band per problemi di natura personale e lavorativa (giugno 2007).
Durante il periodo estivo, alla band si unisce un nuovo batterista, Claudio, per ricompletare nuovamente la formazione originaria.
Attualmente, i Black Jack hanno iniziato le sessioni di registrazione del loro secondo album (che uscirà probabilmente a settembre 2008) nonché l’attività Live 2008 : SI’, I BLACK JACK SONO TORNATI!!!
