Black Judah is the product of two esteemed artists, Sugar Black and Dylan Judah, who have combined their extraordinary talents to create a fresh new sound and positive message for music fans of the world.
The duo’s breakout single “Mercy Please” featuring Warrior King spent three weeks at 1 on the HOT 102 Jamaican Reggae Chart. They were also featured on two of the top annual reggae festivals in the US: Reggae Rising and Seabreeze Festival in California in August 2008. The duo also took Jamaica by storm in December 2008 with highly praised performances on Stone Love 36th Anniversary show and the world-renowned Sting concert. “Don’t Give Up” is their follow-up single/ video and it has reached 1 on TVJ and made it to the top ten at RE TV and CVM networks in Jamaica. In early 2009, the duo was nominated for two prestigious Jamaica-based awards; the EME (Excellence In Music) award for the best duo/group and RETV granted the nomination for an MVP Award for the video, “Mercy Please.”
Sugar Black, a native of Jamaica, discovered his musical passion singing in his school choir as a child. Motivated and extremely talented, he became the youngest apprentice of the Black Star Sound System at age twelve. Recording with Tony Rebel's Flames Production (Garnett Silk, Jah Mason, Ras Shiloh) he released a series of singles including the 1997 the hit: “Oh Jah.”
During that same year, he traveled the world taking part in the Jah By My Side international tour. Over the past decade, Sugar Black has consistently been performing and creating music with many of reggae music's great artists from Jamaica to Los Angeles.
Since 2004, much of that creation has been with Dylan Judah, the other half of Black Judah. Dylan Judah, a Los Angeles local, has also been involved with music since a young age. In 1995, he formed the Cannons (1995-2003), who released two well respected independently produced albums, one of which was honored as best independent album of the year from national Borders Books store chain.
From the group’s formation, Black Judah has been collaborating with some of the music industry's top players. Currently signed to Los Angeles-based Teflon Blood Records, Black Judah has been hard at work on their debut album ROOTS WORLD ORDER with made up mostly of rhythms from the esteemed Kirk Bennett from the Firehouse Crew and recording sessions at Anchor and Stone Love Studios in Jamaica. The set of music completed for ROOTS WORLD ORDER also features collaborations with dancehall chart toppers such as Bad Boy Entertainment artist Elephant Man and VP Records artist Busy Signal. Combining creative vision with the lyrical and vocal talents of Sugar Black and Dylan Judah has resulted in a conscious yet club-friendly dancehall sound rooted in soul, R&B and traditional reggae.
