Hey! Thanks to Mopey Mumble Mouse for this post of the Leap Year show, Feb. 29, 2008:
Although rare that a tropical fish should be found in Atlantic waters, Black Molly has been seen swimming around St. John's, NL since 2007. Often playing her beloved FirstAct Discovery drum set and her Bontempi organ, and other times playing a Gretsch while accompanied by lapsteel/mando/telecaster master Darren "Boobie Browne", she writes songs to entertain herself and (hopefully) others.
A classical background paired with a hankering for folk, rock, blues and country has placed Black Molly in a number of bands on the local and national scene. Catch her playing violin with The Burning Hell, Al Tuck, Kate Maki, Sherry Ryan, Patrick Canning, The Angelshakes, Glenn Nuotio, Bread & Roses, Joe Belly, Kim Barlow or in any number of cameo apearances within the St. John's music scene.
Rumour has it she may eventually have to return to tropical waters. Black Molly has been preparing for this likelihood by learning Greek songs on the baglamas and rehearsing klezmer tunes.
Lasso (elastique) play at Sound Of Mu (Markveien 58, 0550 Oslo) this Sunday, October 4th. We're supporting indie-folk band The Burning Hell and Black Molly, both from Canada. With three acts playing and us probably on first, we could be starting as early as 8 p.m. I expect entry will cost around kr 50,-
Tuesday, October 6th, Lasso play their own concert at Månefisken Café (Sagveien 23A-5, 0459 Oslo). Between two waterfalls by Oslo’s river, Akerselva, lies the legendary Moonfish. That’s where Lasso go sunfishing. Entry is free. 9 p.m. should be a good time to come.
Nice to meet you! NxEW.ca (North by East West) is a group blog covering Canadian music. At this point we have 90 writers covering 27 Canadian cities in 10 provinces and 1 territory. We hope to add many, many more contributors in our ongoing effort to bring together Canada's varied music scenes in one place to share ideas and information, to talk about what's going on locally and what's going on nationally. If you think you might want to contribute read this. Even if you are involved in the 'music business' (musicians, managers, promters etc.,) you are more than welcome. (details here.)
