"Blackout Gorgeous delivers a debut album of songs made to score movies. 'Tragic Logic', a mix of bittersweet jazzy/electronica songs... music to get you through the cloudiest days."
--The Kansas City Star
"Tragic Logic is an outstanding mix of electronica meets soft soul rock and mind-numbing mood music... Blackout Gorgeous has a rich and original sound and I expect them to get plenty of recognition as time goes on. This is a very interesting disc... Grade A"
--entertainmentnutz.com
"It's one of the most sonically adventurous albums to come (to the Kansas City/Lawrence area) in some time... a pyramid of ear candy and melancholia."
--the Pitch Weekly
Blackout Gorgeous, an up and coming band from the Kansas
City/Lawrence area has just finished their
first album, Tragic Logic. Blackout Gorgeous has played at venues in Kansas City and Lawrence, as well as their first tour durring the summer of 2005.
Their sound explores many textures between the members many influences and
backgrounds. Jeremy Nesbitt, a well-known Lawrence
hip-hop producer (has done production for Approach,
Archetype, Mac Lethal, Hieroglyphics,
Rhymesayers and Murs, among many others), constructs the
electronic based beats and sounds and also plays keyboards. Sometimes
basic 808 breakdowns and sometimes sweeping symphonic
waves, Jeremy's contribution as one of the founding members
of Blackout Gorgeous is key to bringing the listener into
the here and now. Ryan Wurtz, also a founding member, adds
his own depth and energy to the sound. Ryan works
with electric and accoustic guitar, using
effects to enhance his many styles and moods ranging from amorphous ambience to jazz to straight up rock. The band recently invited Jerett Fulton, of DJNOTADJ and Mixtape Meditation, to play drums following original drummer, Nick Urbom's recent move to Los Angeles. Jerett incorporates electronic drums into his setup and brings a very energetic sound to the group.
Erin Keller, an experienced classical and jazz
singer
and pianist brings life to the evocative lyrics of
Tim
Wurtz, through soaring melodies and syncopated
speeches. This is where Blackout Gorgeous' uniqueness
truly unfolds as the female and male perspectives
juxtapose and intertwine through the interaction
of Erin and Tim, the two final founding members of the
band. Tim, a long time writer, brings an abundance of talent and a solid image and
message to the soundscape that is Blackout Gorgeous. Tim's raw and honnest approach contrast Erin's more elaborate vocals.
Blackout Gorgeous is a combination of styles and interests with the capacity to wow most listeners while at the same time creating a dance-filled energetic atmosphere at live shows.
