“Fresh funk grooves meets sexy acid jazz, to swing into an organic style that stems from wild west coast soul, and taking it to the world......” A soulful blend of groove that soars from slinky jazz, swing into rocked up roots and sexy funk BlackSandDiva brings an original sound built around strong jazz knowledge, and fused with Aotearoa Soul. Led by the strong vocals and original songwriting of Cat Tunks, their style is 'organic to the wild west coast' - an attitude referring to Cat's upbringing on the wild black sand beaches of Auckland's Piha beach, installing a certain style of 'songwriting, inspiration, & attitude'…........... Their successful season featuring in high profile festivals across New Zealand and the Pacific continues as BSD head INternational, and with several TV and radio appearances under their belt including the recent release of the single 'Secrets'. BlackSandDiva is working on their second album after the debut Chameleon late 2009 – and having received a rare Creative New Zealand funding grant this year the group anticipate the release of a second album in September 2011.
Members
With a stellar line up of heavyweight Auckland Jazz musicians including Mark Baynes (keys), Jason Orme (drums) and Ben Turua (Bass), and introducing the unique world flavours of Israeli guitarist Arli Liberman. The result is an intoxicating guitar groove intwined with fat beats and sultry strong vocals, laced with a sophisticated palette of jazz piano stylings to ice the cake.
