Black Scorpio Limited at present is a multifaceted international firm that is not only known for not being a milestone in the Jamaican industry producting numerous hit songs, but also for the sales of acoustic sounding reggae records, CDs, tapes,etc. It comprises of two well established studio using the highest technologies and equipped with top class facilities and programs such as Protools. In addition, it includes a Dubroom, Sound System,and a Variety store priducing items for clients worldwide. Like many companies, Black Scorpio started with a single core business. This was the Black Scorpio Disco which started in 1971. Maurice Johnson, the visionary was able to build his empire from the resource garnered from earnings gained off playing music at dances and parties. Maurice "Jack" Johnson, a young man wanting to see a future for himself decided to get involved in a competitive sound system business with the likes of Kilimanjaro, Stone Love, Metro Media; strove well through sound system clashes and gained himself numerous awards along the way,becoming a master-mind in the sound system business. In 1980 Jack opened a multipurpose complex in the ghettos Drewsland and purposed in his heart to give something back to the community. This complex housed two recording studios, a dubroom, a restaurant, an icecream parlour and a grocery shop. All facilities offered the community and opportunity for growth especially the youngsters who got an opportunity on Thursday nights to put their talent on show. This was done under the watchful eyes of father Jack. Black Scorpio is appraised worldwide as one of Jamaica's number one veteran music producers, having been the founder of many hit singers and djs in Jamaica, who were inspired by him to go and live there dream and even helped them in accomplishing their dreams as well. Over the years, he has found and has worked in close association with many artists who today are now deemed as top performers in the industry, including Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Kiprich,Richie Stephens, Capleton, Mega Banton, Ricky General, Lady G, Shabba Ranks, Frankie Paul, Shaggy,Gentleman, Sean Paul, Barrington Levy, Yellow Man, Dennis Brown to name just a few.
