Painted Black formed in mid 2001, in Tortosendo (Covilhã, Portugal), from the determination of Daniel (Vocals) and Luís (Guitar), afterward joined in the same year, Telmo (Bass), all with the same purpose of driving out the inmost feelings through music.
The musical genre can be described as a balanced mix of melodic, heartfelt music with some branches of metal.
In late 2005, and after some troubled line-up changes and set-backs, their first self-financed demo/EP, "The Neverlight", is released, with the gathering of new members to the elder crew: Miguel (Guitar) and Rui (Drums) ; and in the same year, in December, they performed in the first Tortosendo Rock festival.
The debut demo/EP gave the band the first recognition in the portuguese underground scene, and also very positive reviews from metal webzines and publications, including abroad in "Metal Legacy" greek webzine and on "Doom-Metal.com".
In the summer of 2006 the band started to record their second self financed EP, "Verbo", which lasted 'till October, and was mastered by Luís Barros (Tarantula) at Rec'n'Roll studios. Mark Kelson from the Australian dark melodic metal band, "The Eternal", appears as special guest in the track "NightShift".
In January 2007, "Verbo" was released, acclaimed with rave reviews from metal and dark culture magazines, to national and international known webzines, like Chronicles of Chaos (UK), OverHook Music (FIN), "PowerMetal.com" (GER) and once again in the main web-source about the Doom Metal scene, "Doom-Metal.com". The band also achieved more radio air-play in national rock shows, and as a result of this continuous recognition, the band manages to perform as support band for Portuguese Doom legends, "Desire" and the Australian band "The Eternal".
In August of 2007, the band moves to the city area of Lisbon, driven by professional and personal reasons, and is forced to seek for a new bass player, which was found in António Durães, a well known musician in the underground metal scene in Portugal.
In the first weeks of 2008, the band got great news as they where voted by the readers of LOUD!, the most important rock/metal Portuguese Magazine, Best Unsigned Band for the year 2007!
In the Past, but not forgotten are the performances in some Rock festivals, like the "Ad Aeternum Festival" in Lisbon in June 2007, the 1st "Teixo Garage Rock Fextival" and the 1st "Rock Festival of Benquerença 2004", next to bands such as Blasted Mechanism and Tara Perdida and in the Rock@Sarzedo festival in the Summer 2005. Never forgotten are all the other gigs held in local bars from the members homeland between 2001 and 2007.

No próximo dia 3 de Julho a ABRA (Associação bracarense amiga dos animais) em colaboração com a Rosavelho Associação (Associação de eventos e espectáculos musicais) iram realizar um concerto com 5 bandas do panorama metal português. São elas Holocausto Canibal, Daemogorgon, Coldfear, Equaleft e Insanus. O objectivo deste concerto tem uma causa nobre, a angariação de fundos para a ABRA. O concerto terá inicio às 20h30 e a entrada será de 4€. Este é o primeiro acto, os próximos actos deste Festival têm ainda data por anunciar.
