Influences
Scads of stomping fiddlers and banjoists and old-time bands, way too many to count or list, but especially those hailing from down around Ararat up to Talcott or a ways farther out, our corner of the mountains (like we own it, right?).
Plus some Kentucky obsessions.
Plus the Roan Mountain Hilltoppers. Plus the Minutemen.

Started in a dark alley between the campers at the 1999 Galax Old Fiddlers Convention and named for an archaic apple variety from founding fiddler Ralph Berrier Jr.'s family orchard, the Black Twig Pickers' fiddle/banjo/ guitar/washboard/whatsis racket has sounded in dives, barns, streets and dances from Amsterdam to Atlanta, yet remains solidly rooted in a corner of Southwest Virginia where four other states are closer than the Virginia capital.
Black Twigs cds are available through www.blacktwigpickers.org, vhfrecords.com or midheaven.com, at itunes, emusic and at your finer establishments of the brick-and-mortar variety.

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff

Hey - Thanks for the friendship! Music links us all together.
There are wars taking place in every country in the world. Some are
just more obvious. Check out my new video "Simpler Time". Reach out
and make a difference and the ripple will be felt around the world. It
has to come from within each of us. The alternative is unacceptable.
Music can make a difference. Keep reaching out.
