Biography
Black Wings were born in the late summer 2005 by the meeting between Filippo Cavallini, a young bass player from Ferrara (Italy) and Federico Rubin, a keyboard player (even younger than Filippo), from a near by little town called Ripapersico. Soon Giacomo Bazzani, already drummer with Filippo in a hard n heavy Band from Ferrara called Roverfish, joined the band along with the twin brother of Federico, Francesco Rubin (guitars). After some auditions, around November 2005, the band find its singer in the shape of Diego Albini, formerly from Kreatures of the Night Band, an hard rock band from Ferrara.
In august 2006 the band records a live gig which receive many good reviews and critics from many webzine around the globe and, after only few months, Black Wings meet Maurizio Chiarello and Underground Symphony Records which will be their first record label.
In September 2007 Black Wings start the recordings for their debut album SACRED SHIVER at the excellent Fear Studio in Alfonsine, Ravenna (Italy).
The album, produced by the band and Simone Mularoni (formerly guitar player in DGM) and engineered by the great sound engineer Gabriele Ravaglia is a good fusion between the most important influences of the quintet: the prog power influence of bands such as Stratovarius, the old good Hard Rock from the seventies and the eighties (band as Rainbow and Deep Purple are a great inspiration to the band which featured in the album, as a bonus track, the cover of the historical Tarot Woman song from the album Rainbow “Rising”) and the modern progressive influence of bands such as Dream Theater and Shadow Gallery.
The first tunes from the album obtain many good responses from many metalheads around the world and tunes such as Fire Tide, Captive to Lies and Hiding the Moon are also played on air by many radio around the globe (California, Italy, USA east coast, England, Greece…).
In March 2008, after two years together, two great characters of the band, Federico and Francesco Rubin quit.
To replace them came along Alessandro Duò, a great keyboard player and singer (Maudits, Utopia Divides, Olimpiadrom...), and the great guitar virtuoso Luca Fortini (already guitar player for Paul di Anno from Iron Maiden). With this new line up the band collected many important live experience and openings for band such as Andre Matos, Circus Maximus, Vision Divine and Seventh Wonder.
At the end of March 2009, after a one year standing, Luke Fortini is fired from the band due to personal and musical divergences; to replace him came along Claudio Pietronik, a young and heavy talented guitar virtuoso which is considered one of the brightest and youngest promises among italian guitar players.
Actually Black Wings, at their MK III, are working on the new tunes to feature in the follow up to their debut LP.
Sacred Shiver meanwhile is selling well and still obtaining good reviews from the media and an awesome response from the audience all over the world.
