Good things come fast. That certainly is the case for Belgian bruisers Blade. In a short time span, these guys have been making quite some waves. Blade was formed in the summer of 2005, when brothers Timmy and Joey Steyls (ex-Silence Before Storm) and Jan Jouck (ex-Revuelta) started jamming and writing songs together. A few months later Tom Luyten, a former bandmate of Jan, took on bass duties. After trying a bunch of singers they asked their good friend Colin Celis to give it a try. A surprising step because he actually was a guitar and bass player, but the move worked out. Finding their frontman was the last piece of the puzzle.
Blade immediately burst on to the scene, never looking back. Although hailing from the Limburg area, from the very beginning these guys have been playing shows all over the country and even in the Netherlands and Germany. And all that in this short period! Of course, the fact that you come across these guys at just about every local show has not hurt them one bit. And that is not even mentioning the fact that Colin has been putting on shows for years with Framed! and Wanted Records with both local and international bands.
Musically, these guys are all about hard hitting, haunting and dark hardcore. The main influence for Blade is the infamous Clevo sound with bands like Ringworm and Integrity. Another part of their sound comes from ‘90’s straight edge bands. Add a dash of Earth Crisis, Judge and All Out War and you might get an idea of how Blade launches an attack on your senses. Actually, it would safe to say that everything that is hardcore has shaped these guys. The lyrics are definitely straight edge and it is important to all the band members. The 5 members of this band take this band and its music very seriously.
It is no surprise then that Blade has already made a lot friends. In the space of not even a year of playing shows, they have played the Vlamrock festival and shows in The Zoo and Dynamo clubs amongst others. They’ve shared the stage and formed friendships with bands such as True Colors, Justice, Morda, The Setup, Verify, No Recess, Morda, The Dying, Human Demise (NL), No Turning Back (NL) , Risky Business (US), Palehorse (US) and Down To Nothing (US).
German label Break Out Records were first to snap Blade up and they released a split 10” with Goldust, a German band. Blade went for top notch quality right away, going into the studio with Belgian hot shot producer Ace Zec. This man has delivered the goods for Death Before Disco, Severance, The Maple Room, Morda, The Dying and The Setup. He has not disappointed this time either, giving Blade exactly the agressive production they need. Records and merchandise have been selling out left and right at practically every show, so you better not hesitate when Blade rolls into a venue near you. This Blade will cut through anything.
