A Hempstead man pleaded not guilty yesterday to five felony charges stemming from a robbery last month that hospitalized a man with a gunshot wound. Steven T. King, 31, of 5 Tyler Place, demanded a necklace from an unidentified man who was standing in a courtyard in front of 63 Elm Ave. in Hempstead on Nov. 10, Nassau police said. When the victim attempted to flee and fell to the ground, police said, King pulled a gun from his pocket and fired one shot at the victim, striking the man under the left ear. King forcibly removed the man's necklace and fled, police said. The victim, who was treated at Winthrop-University Hospital, has since been released and is "doing better," said Det. Sgt. Richard Dorsi. King was arrested Friday on unrelated vehicle and traffic charges, Dorsi said. "During processing of that arrest, it was determined that he was wanted in this robbery," Dorsi said. King was charged with robbery, criminal use of a firearm, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, and assault. He was held on $265,000 bond, or $132,500 cash bail. -
