The idea behind the BLaH parties was born in 1998 after a rocking house party blew the roof off what the big clubs were unable to offer the discerning clubber in London. Toby, Garnish and a whole host of the now BLaH faithful were sitting in the garden of a renowned party house in Islington reflecting on the night just passed, the freedom that house parties gave you from heavy handed arrogant security, the big club crowds more concerned with looking good, the overpriced drinks and extortionate door entry. Add all this to below par and lazy DJs playing for themselves not the crowd and you realise the big clubs are putting a real dampener on your vibe.
The challenge was thrown and Toby, Garnish and Jules set about recreating that special house party scene on a much bigger scale.
The result was the KinK parties. Housed in an abandoned wood factory on Pitfield Street in Shoreditch, the parties were run with no advertising, relying on word of mouth only and a hard core of party people. KinK went from strength to strength. No nonsense parties, a great sound, good people, a laid back attitude and a sensible door price provided the escape from an increasingly corporate club scene that many were looking for.
The unique vibe and fantastic crowds attracted top class DJs who loved the intimate atmosphere that the bigger clubs were missing. It's the only reason we're able book names like Frank Tope, Tayo, Danny Clark & Robert Owens for very little money. With a strict no free guest list and no vip room policy, everyone was there for one thing only - the party. The venue was dark, dirty (and in the early years downright dangerous!), but it didn't matter, something special was born.
In 2002 the venue was finally condemned and Toby and Garnish decided to keep the vibe alive and continue the parties at a different location. Moving to the Fortress in Old Street. Now the night was less dangerous & more legal so it was given a new name - 'BLaH'
Since then the parties have blossomed and the venues continue to be filled by a single email out to members and through word of mouth.
Every summer we get involved with a charity boat party & have raised thousands for charities over the years. In 2k5 we did our own boat party for the tsunami victims in Sri Lanka. We chose Sri Lanka because we have a contact in a village that needs rebuilding so the funds will be sent directly with no red tape or admin costs you get with larger charity organisations.
After the sad closure of the downright filthy, dark and gorgeous Fortress in Old Street last year our home was lost (once more, another venue shut by the powers that be)
For our 2006 x-mas party, we discovered Cafe 1001 in Brick Lane. It was an absolute belter. Here's an email we recieved which tickled us from someone a few days after the party.....
"hey, was at cafe 1001 last saturday, sort of only just recovered, but yeah i ended up missing my plane to australia the next day becasue of it....just wondering if you could send me some track listings of what you played that night becasue it was fucking wicked as some sort of consulation. Hope this is possible, cheers!!!!!!!"
Check out our website www.blahparties.com for future dates. If you've not been along before, get your names added to the members list via the website. We only send a handful emails a year & don't share our database with anyone.
Here are some of the DJs & Performers from over the years...

I know its a stretch, but it would be fab if we could pull off a Blah party combining my birthday, DJ Wild's first set in London in 5 years, and my first DJ booking for him ;-) What a way to celebrate!!! xx
