From Adare, Co Limerick, Blaine Mackessy is one of Irelands finest emerging young talents on the Piano Accordion. Currently studying an MA in Irish Traditional music Performance at the Irish World Academy of Music & Dance, University of Limerick, Blaine also plays and teaches piano and more recently works as an organist. He has won numerous awards on the Piano Accordion and has performed throughout Europe and North America. He is a former member of the hugely popular Irish ballad group Erins Own, and has also worked with the 'Richie McCoy' band as accordionist and pianist. He is also in popular demand as a guest artist. Blaine was a guest musician for the Jubilee celebrations at the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick in 2000, to an attendance of over 10,000. He performed on the hugely successful album from Irish tenor Derek Moloney entitled 'Ireland Ireland' and also performed on the debut album of Limerick musician and 'You're a Star' finalist Richie McCoy entitled '12 days'. Blaine has also made numerous television and radio appearances. He performed at the easter masses at St John's Cathedral, Limerick, April 04, broadcast live on RTE television, and in April 07, was the organist for the Holy Trinity Abbey choir Adare, at Palm Sunday mass, again broadcast live on RTE television. He has also performed on RTE radio 1's 'Ceili House' and has often appeared on West Limerick radio's 'Open House' programme. He has also performed with the world renowned Opera singer, Roderick Keating, on his recent visit to Ireland.
