A household of music, an old & out-of-tune-piano, and a love of poetry were all it took for him to sit down one day in the 7th grade and write his first song, "Small Steps." While he has forgotten most of that song, Blake Pfeil has since grown a substantial amount into a introspective singer-songwriter who loves words, sounds, and "raw art."
Blake began writing songs of a more mature fashion during his sophomore year of high school, and he began performing them for live audiences that same year. In addition to his love for the performing arts, Blake was beginning to get into the routine of sitting down at a piano every day, trying to make music. Along with his friend and artistic companion Kay Valetz, Blake started picking up the coffeehouse circuit in Colorado (his beautiful place of birth) and the Rocky Mountain Region.
The songs that have fallen out of Blake's fingers onto the blacks and the whites (and now guitar strings) are nothing short of original. The variety of music Blake composes (both with words and without) ranges in style and sound, most likely a result from ecclectic, central influences: Jamie Cullum, Don Henley, Ben Folds, Rufus Wainwright, Regina Spektor, Judy Collins, Joni Mitchell, Kenny Loggins, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, George Winston, Jason Robert Brown, among others.
Blake has performed his works throughout Colorado, Wyoming, Oregon, and Massachusetts, to name a few. However, his performance life does not end there. As a BFA Musical Theatre Major at Emerson College in Boston, Blake has worked extensively in community and regional theater since the 8th grade. His theatrical endeavors include performances at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, Theatreworks, Glen Eyrie Castle, the Cutler Majestic Theater, as well as many others. Because of his work in the theater, Blake was awarded as both a Theatre Finalist for the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts and a Presidential Scholar in the Arts Semi-finalist.
As a choral singer, Blake has performed both nationally and internationally in venues lsuch as St. Mark's Cathedral in Venice, Italy, as well as the Lincoln Center in Fort Collins, Colorado. As a film actor, Blake has done both commercial, short & documentary film work, appearing movies like the upcoming short TUESDAY MORNING (recently accepted at the Toronto International Film Festival) and the Academy-Award nominated REHEARSING A DREAM. As an aspiring casting director, Blake was employed by Maura Tighe Casting Agency, and he plans to attend Emerson College's Los Angeles Summer Program next year.
With plans to release his first album entitled FOLK very soon, Blake will begin picking up gigs in and around Boston this summer. However, if you are just that desparate to see him perform before that, he is a regularly scheduled performer on the Spirit of Boston (a hefty harbor cruise ship), which he swears he's doing for the experience... but really is there to pay the bills.
