Far and broad - I've been influenced by both genres of Hip Hop/Rap & R'n'B. My biggest influences however, have always been Fresh Prince, Bone Thugs and Tupac Shakur.
Sounds Like
I've drawn comparisons from Kool Moe Dee to a young Biggie, and even as far as Bone Thugs and/or Nelly. Personally speaking, KB can only be KB -- and hell, I'm waiting for the day for when cats say they sound like me.
Its amazing how many different
origins of an artist one can read - especially in an outlet like "Hip Hop".
Where you can take a look at that artist's life, and read the gritty tales of
street life and hardship. The pain that comes with living in a situation that
you have no control over. And as you continue to read, and reach more into the
life of the lyricist, you manage to bring yourself to a path. A path that when
traveled, you can even say you feel the aforementioned pain. However, although
Hip Hop was created by the streets and for the streets as an way to express the
bottled pain - it doesn't mean that it has come from the streets. Enter the
name; Koffee Blakk. Hailing from an area where many may call ''paradise'', his
story is far different from the cliche you've come to hear from artists in the
same genre, as is the way he managed to become a rapper in the first place.
So before you read on, the following (like it or not) is going to be the
truth, the whole truth - and nothing but the truth. Whether or not you choose to
accept it as it is, will remain to be seen.
Koffee Blakk, better known as Riston Alistar Simon was born in Tortola,
British Virgin Islands to Gregson & Eurina Simon on October 18th, 1983. He was
the first born child of the couple, who was followed by his two brothers and
sister as the years rolled by. His father was/is a Construction worker slash
Business owner slash Pastor and at the time, his mother Eurina was a Gospel
singer. Being Christian parents, it was only fitting that Riston and his
siblings found themselves in Church every Sunday. This is where his first taste
for music first came into effect. Now notice that the term "music" was used,
simply because although Koffee Blakk is a rapper/emcee - he is also a vocalist
too.
